Spectro-Chrome Therapy

Most people hold the concept that when a person is sick, he/she has to take medicine. Can you imagine that immersing oneself who is having a fever in green light helps get rid of the fever? Or when one sprains himself or herself, projecting an indigo colour light at the wounded area can help recovery? This treatment is the so-called Spectro-Chrome therapy.

Mr. Dinshah Ghadiali epitomized the Spectro-Chrome therapy. Before him there were research and clinical experience accumulated by several doctors; however, Mr. Ghadiali was the one who gathered and compiled the system of Spectro-Chrome therapy and widely introduced and promoted the therapy. Moreover, in the last 30 years of his life, he was in and out of court numerous times because of Spectro-Chrome therapy. He was fined and served sentences and was even forced to close down his organization. Yet he still persisted and within permissible boundary he insisted to continue promoting the therapy. After his death, his three sons succeeded his career and widely promoted Spectro-Chrome therapy through a non-profit organization.

Spectro-Chrome therapy can be considered as a type of colour therapy, however it is different from the general type of colour therapy; Spectro-Chrome therapy emphasizes that the colours used in the therapy must be the so-called “spectro-colours”. First, since combination of colours will be used, the colour combinations must be in fixed ratios. Second, every colour has a major frequency (of colour), so the light filter must be the broad-spectrum light filter in order to generate the effect similar to Fraunhofer lines, which is the dark-line effect of sunlight. During the early stage, when Dinshah used glass light filter for Spectro-Chrome therapy, usually less than one quarter of the glass filters ordered actually met the standard of spectro-colours. The filter that Dinshah organization recommends now is the Roscolene filter produced by the Rosco laboratory. Dinshah repeatedly stressed the importance of using the genuine spectro-colour: the effect of spectro-chrome treatment cannot be attained without the proper spectro-colours.

With the proper spectro-colours, source of light is also needed to project the light onto the body. Comparing to spectro-light, the source of light is much easier to find. The light from the sunlight, torch light, projector, desk lamp are all useable, and the degree of light does not affect the result of Spectro-Chrome treatment. In fact, when Mr. Dinshah first conducted the Spectro-Chrome therapy in 1897, the light source was simply from a common kerosene lamp in India, and yet he managed to save a life. It should be noted that the Dinshah organisation does not recommend the use of light from “a full-spectrum neodymium bulb” or fluorescent lamp for treatment because under the X-ray of a spectroscope, both lights have the problem of frequency (colour) disappearing or overly high frequency. It is recommended that traditional light bulb be used for Spectro-Chrome therapy. Also, considering the effect of electromagnetic waves on human body, unless the light source is weak, such as that from a torch light, otherwise the user must maintain a distance of about 46cm (approximately the length of an extended arm) from the light source and it is best not to have any electrical equipment turned on in the surrounding.

Spectro-colour influences the human body through invisible aura. Due to the movements of electro-chemical cells, any living thing is surrounded by an aura; with the increase in distance, the aura sharply disappears. The colour of aura changes with the person’s physical and mental state. When a person is sick, certain colours of the aura could be too strong or too weak. Through a Spectro-Chrome therapy, the colour that is needed by the aura is sent so that the aura returns to its state of balance and that the person recovers to the original healthy state.

Before the commencement of a Spectro-Chrome therapy, please pay attention to a few details. One is the timing of change of breath. This is like the ocean tide of the earth. The ability of the body in accepting colours rises and falls with time. Observe this for one week. The easiest way is to watch the changes in pressure of the left and right nostrils. As the pressure of one nostril increases, the pressure of the other side decreases. A complete cycle is 2 hours 56 minutes. For Spectro-Chrome therapy, the most important timing is when the pressures of both nostrils are the same which is called the junction. Thus, the best time to start a Spectro-Chrome therapy is half-an-hour prior to the junction so that after the one-hour colour therapy, both nostrils are still under the same pressure. The changes in the nostril pressure are affected by the moon. Therefore, similar to the ocean tide, the nostril pressure differs with the location and time of the earth. Dinshah organisation provides an annual time table to all members, the annual fee is quite low, and the information can be obtained from the website: www.dinshahhealth.org. Although many people may conduct the Spectro-Chrome therapy at their time of convenience and still get good results, those who have serious illnesses may experience even better results if they pay attention to these minor details.

Another detail to note is the so-called “heartbeat to breath ratio”. For instance, the heartbeat of 75 times per minute and the count of breath (one inhalation and exhalation is counted as one breath) of 15 times per minute give a ratio of 5 to 1 (75 divided by 15). Owing to the differences in gender, age and stamina, the ratio may differ from person to person; however, the ratio for normal people is between 4 to 1 and 5 to 1. Only after the ratio of heartbeat to breath is determined can the Spectro-Chrome therapy be used effectively in treating symptoms. An older magazine of Dinshah quoted a case of serious eyes inflammation. Through the use of the Itisometer, a sensitive electric thermometer invented by Dinshah which measures the activity of internal organs, the therapist found that red colour must be used for the treatment; this seems to be at odds with the theory of Spectro-Chrome therapy. In fact, the therapist did not pay attention to the heartbeat to breath ratio before the treatment, yet red colour has the effect in stimulating blood circulation, and thus the person was able to recover within three short light treatments. The repairing of human body depends on blood circulation while the heartbeat to breath ratio can help us determine the extent of blood circulation and in turn determine which colour can help maximize the function of blood circulation. The Dinshah organisation strongly recommends that a body-warming light treatment based on the heartbeat to breath ratio be conducted prior to the Spectro-Chrome therapy in order to boost the effect of the formal Spectro-Chrome therapy.

Colour is the most important issue in the Spectro-Chrome therapy and thus more discussion will be given on colours. Let’s begin the discussion with green colour. Green is a neutral colour that is right in the middle of a spectrum, and thus is a dominating colour and also a colour for physical balance. In the practical application, when the patient experiences discomfort in the Spectro-Chrome therapy and is unable to continue with the light treatment, green colour may be used to ease up this strong reaction. From a spectrum, it can be seen that the green colour extends on its left and right into two groups of colours. Classifying colours by frequency, the group before green colour consists of red, orange, yellow and lemon colours which Dinshah referred to as the infra-green colours, whereas the group that comes after the green colour consists of bluish-green, blue, indigo and violet are referred to as the ultra-green colours. There is another group of colours that cannot be seen in a spectrum, but if both ends of the spectrum (violet and red) are connected, this group of colours can be detected; it includes purple, purplish red, and scarlet which mainly affects the body’s blood circulation, reproductive organs and emotions.

Other than belonging to different colour groups, almost all colours have an opposing colour; the two opposing colours have opposite effect. For example, orange colour has a stimulant effect on thyroid while its opposing colour, indigo, has a suppressing effect on thyroid. Green is a neutral colour and thus does not have any opposing colours. Purplish red is another colour that does not have an opposing colour. If a spectrum is connected, purplish red, a mental balancing colour, is right across green colour.

Dinshah collected and collated the functions of 12 spectro-colours and called them the “attributes”, that is, under the condition that the body can “absorb” the colours, the body reactions that may result from the projection of a particular colour onto the body. Generally, the functions include stimulating or suppressing different nerves and glands, assisting the construction and structuring of glands, organs and tissues, stimulating metabolism and the effects of detoxifying, killing bacteria, disinfecting, regulating blood pressure and blood circulation, stabilizing emotions, relieving pain, releasing heat and other functions. A thorough understanding of the attributes will help us determine the colours needed based on the symptoms. First of all, green and the derived colours of lemon and bluish-green are used in most instances. This is because green colour plays the role of a physical stabilizer; lemon and bluish-green colours each has half of green colour component, and thus has similar impact on the body. The other half of the lemon color is yellow which is suitable for treating chronic or long-term illnesses. Whereas for acute or short-term illnesses that are usually accompanied with fever, the bluish-green colour may be used for treatment. Second of all, before starting the Spectro-Chrome therapy and for all illnesses related to the heart, blood circulation and reproductive organs, the colours from the circulatory colour group (purple, purplish-red, scarlet) are usually used. Third of all, for sensory or nerves damage and paralysis, lemon colour is usually used for the colour treatment, then accompanied with an appropriate green for stimulation and awakening. Finally, since indigo can control bleeding and festering, promote the production of white blood cells, reduce pain and have a calming effect, the colour is used a lot for these conditions.

Based on the attributes of colours and his years of experience, Dinshah formulated a series of colour schedules, drew plans for the required spectro-colours and the areas that need colour treatment in accordance with a given illness. There are a total of 331 groups of colour schedules which treat over 400 types of conditions, ranging from general cuts and colds to complicated illnesses such as coronary disease and cancer. It has to be specifically stressed that colour schedules aim at typical symptoms but may not be the only colour combination for light treatment. The consideration and selection of colour attributes still depends on the clinical symptoms. Not to mention that colour schedules is only a process of learning the Spectro-Chrome therapy, the most important thing is to be able to apply the colour schedules and attributes under all different conditions.

The most marvelous part about the Spectro-Chrome therapy is probably its preventive effect. Because every colour has many types of attributes, and additionally each colour usually contains the characters of its two neighbouring colours on the spectro-chrome colour wheel, as we conduct a light therapy on a particular symptom, we could have probably effectively controlled other illnesses that have not shown symptoms. Some people might be worried about any side-effects on the human body due to too much light treatment. Thanks to the ingenious human body structure, once the body absorbs enough of a specific light, the body will protect itself and automatically stops the effects of such functions. Therefore, the Spectro-Chrome therapy can be considered as a recovery treatment that has no worries for side-effects.

Dinshah recommended that water be used during the process of Spectro-Chrome therapy to speed up the effect of light treatment. Simply place a glass of water close to the light filter and drink it after receiving the light treatment. This is especially effective for an acute illness or a newly developed sickness, the effect is much more obvious than that of chronic or long-term illness. Females must note that because aura changes during menstruation, unless it is for their personal use, it is better that they do not handle the colour charged water for others to avoid affecting the energy absorbed by the water. Even if it is for their personal use, unless it is an emergency or a syndrome related to menstruation, it is best not to receive light treatment during menstruation.

Because of his strong confidence in the therapy, Dinshah devoted all his life to Spectro-Chrome therapy. However, he did not deny the limitations of the therapy. Other than wrong application of the method, for instance, receiving treatment with clothes on, sometimes the symptoms are due to unhealthy diet, external factors such as the mercury from tooth filling or the influence of electromagnetic fields. Treating long-term illnesses takes time and patience. And sometimes the natural force is the strongest among everything and it is too late for any man-made assistance. Years of experience shows that cataract, adult hernia, excess size of kidney stone, etc, are all difficult to cure with Spectro-Chrome therapy. Under certain situations, it is necessary to draw assistance from other forms of therapies. However, Dinshah emphasized that in most cases, even if the person is unable to fully recover through Spectro-Chrome therapy, the therapy still has the effect of easing the symptoms. For patients with terminal illness, Spectro-Chrome therapy can help minimize the pain before death.

Darius Dinshah, the president of the Dinshah organisation, mentioned in an interview that he has never visited a doctor or taken any medication since young; he merely depends on the Spectro-Chrome therapy. Based on his confidence in the therapy, Mr. Dinshah Ghadiali even spent his whole life fighting for the Spectro-Chrome therapy. Even though they strongly believe in the miraculous Spectro-Chrome therapy, they also at the same time emphasize that the first line of defense to health is actually a healthy lifestyle, including healthy eating habit, a vegetarian diet, natural and unprocessed food, stay away from food or drugs that cause excitement or addiction, and a healthy living environment. Personal health is a personal choice, and also a personal responsibility.

The Salmons Want to Go Home – A transcription of the speech by John Robbins

In July, more than a hundred people gathered at a wooden house located in the larch forest of North California, USA. After hearing John Robbins’ speech, they gave him a standing ovation that lasted for quite some time.

Outside the wooden house, a cool breeze gently caressed the forest of larches. The summer sun shone through a large piece of glass at the rooftop, showering on everybody’s head. On stage, John was quietly smiling, accepting the appreciation of the audience. His speech had touched everyone in presence. Some even had tears in their eyes…

We began to understand why, at a United Nations conference held a few years ago, the representatives stood up to applaud John after hearing his speech.

It is because of his sincerity. It is because of his integrity and righteousness.

His sincerity to life; his care for the Earth; his treating everything in the Universe as equals; his love for his wife, son, daughter-in-law and twin grandchildren; his desire to seek welfare for all mankind; and his integrity that shows no fear to those in power… These, will touch the most stubborn mind and let the most arrogant bow their heads in shame.

John came from a wealthy family. He is the only son of the founder of “Baskin-Robbins” ice-cream empire. However, he chose to give up his family business worth several billions, to pursue an even greater ambition. Indeed, he stirred a revolution. His books Diet for a New America, Reclaiming Our Health, The Awakened Heart and The Food Revolution call on people to change their diets, to use compassion and love to bring about changes to the healthcare system, to heal ourselves and to heal the Earth. The concepts that he brought forward have been named as one of the most important accomplishments of this century.

John accepted Dr Lai Chiu-Nan’s invitation to give a speech at this workshop, part of a learning camp in North California organised by Lapis Lazuli Light. Dr Lai said to be able to hear John’s speech is a rare opportunity. We were indeed very lucky to be here to listen to him. We deeply felt that something as wonderful as this should be shared with everybody as soon as possible. The following is a transcription of John’s speech.

Welcome everyone and myself to be with you.

I want to tell you a little story to start with. My wife, Dior and I have been together for 37 years. In our generation and culture, it is something hard to come by for us to be together for such length of time. We have a son, Ocean. He is 29. We live with him and his wife, who is our “daughter-in-love” and their two babies – twin boys. Three generations in one house, one family together.

The story I wanted to tell you happened when Ocean was 10 or maybe 11. We lived in a small home. We had a problem with fruit flies. They were swarming in our kitchen and were landing on everything. We tried very hard to keep things clean so to deter them. We did not leave food out and we tried to create an inhospitable environment so that they would leave. But they persisted. They were so thick in the air it was difficult for us to breathe. We were afraid that we might inhale them. What do we do? So we tried to talk to them, asking them to leave. They did not seem to notice.

Finally, we are not violent people but to a certain point, we had to try to get a fly-swatter as there were so many of them. Ocean said, “No, no. Before you use the fly-swatter, let me try.” I did not know what he was talking about.

He wrote them a letter:
“Dear Fruit Flies,

First, I want to bless you and send all my love to you, to all your ancestors, all your descendants to come and all future generations of fruit flies, and to wish you a happy and peaceful life. I also want to tell you that this is our house. We live here, we pay rent and you don’t. We eat the food here and you are also eating our food and that’s a problem for us because we can only eat certain food and those are the ones we have. But outside there are many food that you can eat but we cannot. There is a compost pile outside, full of rotting beans and horse manure from the local place. Those are the things you can eat. So we would like you to eat there. We would like you to leave. We love you and we respect you and bless you and want you to leave our house. We really mean this. If you don’t leave by tomorrow, my parents have purchased a fly-swatter and I believe they would actually use it. So I am pleading with you to please leave now and I wish you all the juiciest dung pile in the world for you, your children and their children.”

Ocean wrote this note and read it out loud in the kitchen just in case a few little ones might not be able to read. Then he taped it to the wall with an arrow pointing to the window and wrote: “Please leave from here.” We left the window open and went to bed. The next morning when we woke up and went back to the kitchen, there was not a single fruit fly.

This is a true story. If we teach our children since young to revere life, this is the kind of beautiful story that you would get. When the child is still in the womb, or even before conception, we can connect with our child spiritually and start teaching them to respect all beings.

We have lives because we are part of a greater life. Not in isolation, but along with a bigger family. Our power – the power to heal, to live beautiful and successful and extraordinary lives – stems from our connection with this greater life. What happened with Ocean was he was raised along this way of thinking. So when a situation arose with the fruit flies, he knew there was this power that he could contact the little flies. He did.

Afterwards I thought, if he was so good, he may write to the pests in the fields, asking them to leave. Probably the chemical company would not like it. It may put them out of business. I don’t know whether this is possible but some people do have this ability. Certainly with this 10-year-old Ocean, he did not have the idea of harming others. To him, human beings were not harmful. We could communicate with other life forms. So I think what every minute of his life is a reflection of something very beautiful, innocent and sacred – a part of who we essentially are, of our healing power. It can be a guide to how we live and even such simple choices like the food we eat.

Common Trances
Do you know the meaning of “common trance”? A kind of hypnotic, sheer belief system that teaches what is real and what is the conventional trance in the society. What matters in food is food that is tasty, cheap and convenient. It does not matter how it was produced, whether chemicals and poison were used and the residue from them stored in the food. As long it is cheap and tasty and convenient, it does not matter the long-term health implications and it does not matter that farm workers are poisoned. As long as it is cheap and tasty, it does not matter what is really going on. McDonald thrives on people to think in this way and wants people to think this way so they would continue to buy their food day in and day out. McDonald does not care what happens to people.

Opposing that belief system, there is a whole other way of looking at things. We ask if there are animal products, meat, dairy products. Then we want to know how these animals were treated and how they were killed. We care about these other creatures as they are part of our greater family. They draw in their breaths from the same source as we do and partake in the great spirit of life. It matters how they are treated.

It is important that we not be in trance. Our consciousness is not controlled by the commercial culture. It is important that we ask ourselves what we really want and what is important to us so that the choices we make, in terms of what we eat, be consistent with our values and truths. The food that is good for our bodies, that will give us health, strength and help us to live long and happy lives, are also the same food that are kindest to other animals and earth.

Now in this country we are starting to genetically engineer (GE) foods and particularly soybeans, corns, canola and cotton. The first three are food. Most of the soybeans that we grow in USA are now genetically engineered.

Do you know what it means to genetically engineer a seed? It alters the DNA so that the change is permanent and all subsequent generations will forever contain that alteration. What they are altered for is to tolerate weed killers. When the farmers spray herbicides in their soybean or cornfields, there is a type called “Round-Up”, it kills all the weeds except GE plants. I wonder why we have to kill the weeds in the first place? Why don’t we grow crops in a way that is in harmony with the eco system? Organic agriculture doesn’t require us to poison the earth. There are other ways to increase the commercial agriculture. But in this country, those export to the rest of the world is using the techniques of GE, enabling it to be for “efficiency” in plants and animals.

I would like to make this into a discussion. What questions would you like to ask?

Question: How Are The Twin Babies?

The Commitment of a Grandfather

Cute. They were born very very prematurely. Very difficult in the beginning as normally it would be a 9-month pregnancy but they were born shortly after six months. They were born weighing only about 2lbs, unable to breath, suck, swallow. Quite frankly, unable to live. But through a great deal of medical intervention, they survived.

They are now adorable, and still a little bit challenge in some way. Womb is a precious, sacred, holy environment. An incubator in the intensive care in hospital can hardly replace the womb from the spiritual and emotional point of view. It’s very far cry from the mother’s body. We are now providing the boys with life support, comfort and support they didn’t get in the womb.

We made a vow when we came home from the hospital. They were so isolated in the hospital incubators. We made a vow: They would be in contact with our skin 24 hours a day for at least one year. We held them all the time. We kept that vow. They slept on us for 24 hours a day for one year, so to restore the bonding, the contact that from their point of view, life is trustworthy and this is a safe place to be. We still to this day hold them a lot. I am the grandfather. I get them to fly, hold them and go flying around the house, up the hills, hall to kitchen, and plunge them on the bed with a “Plop!”. And they love it! They would come back and ask again. They are now 2 ½ years old.

Question: Eating GE Soybeans And Its Products, E.G. Tofu, How Would That Affect Our Health?

This is still a puzzle. The US government has not required a single study on these foods before allowing them to be commercially produced and consumed. There have been no studies on what happens to people who eat these products. They just assume these products are similar to the original. However, small studies undertaken by private independent agencies associated with universities are not reassuring.

The amino acid profile, the protein balance in soybean is one of the thing that is useful to people. Genetically engineered soybeans are deficient in some of the amino acid that is necessary for life. There are also indications that genetically engineered soybeans are more likely to produce allergenic effect – food allergy response or reaction – than conventional soybeans. So it is best if you buy soy products or make soy products like tofu, soy milk tempeh, get them or make them from organically grown soybeans. Not only are you avoiding pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, you are avoiding the dangers of genetically engineered food. It is most important today that we buy and use and grow organic food as much as possible.

Question: How Do We Distinguish Genetically Engineered Food?

The problem is no labelling. So it is difficult to distinguish genetically engineered food. The US Government does not have a labelling law on GE food. In a recent poll, 93% of the Americans public would like GE food to be labelled. Actually in this country, it’s very hard to get this high percentage of people to agree on anything. So it is remarkable how unanimously the people are in wanting this label. This actually involves our basic right of knowing what we eat.

Mosanto, the major GE corporation, is against such labelling law, because then people would not buy their products. But the thing is, do they have the right to force us to eat GE food?

I want to tell you some secrets. Key foods to watch are soybeans, corn and canola. Right now, 99% of GE foods in this country are those three types. If you want to eat these foods, choose organic ones. Also look out for any products made of these three types of crops, e.g. corn syrup, corn sweetener. If it is not labelled organic, most likely it’s from GE plants.

All of you come from different countries. If you’re not from America or Canada, perhaps GE food is still not so common in your country. Maybe your country bans the selling of GE food, or has a labelling law, then you are safe. But how long can this last? Being the most powerful country in the world, the Bush administration would pressure the rest of the world to do business the American way. They are committed to spreading particularly GE food worldwide. So it is important to stop them.

Not A Single Step

May I ask how many of you here are vegetarians? (The majority put up their hands) How many of you are not? (a few people raised their hands). Only a few, very good.

In agriculture today, more and more agriculture animals like cows, chicken, turkey, pigs, etc are kept in the so-called factory farms. For example, in a factory farm which is slightly bigger than this prayer hall, there will probably be 1,000 pigs, each weighing about 500 lbs. These pigs are kept in individual cages the size of their own bodies. The cages are stacked in tiers and waste from the upper tier will drop onto the head of the animals in the lower tier. You see how crowded it is and they cannot take a single step to turn their bodies in their whole life. This is very, very cruel. This is done because it enables the industry to produce pork that is tasty and cheap.

If you have compassion for these creatures, if you wish them well, you must ask yourself a question. Do you want to take food that is produced in this nature?

Have you come across animals that touch your heart, like a human being does? Do you feel that you have an important relationship with your pets at home? Ask yourself: Why do we call some animals pets and treat them with a great deal of love? Why do we draw a line and call other animals “dinner”? And simply because it’s our dinner, we allow the cruelty that’s going on in the factory farms. If you eat meat, you need to look carefully how it is produced and what happens to the animal if you don’t want to unconsciously add to the cruelty of animals.

Question: Are The GE Soybeans In USA Being Exported To Third World Countries?

YES.

Question: Soybeans Are Genetically Modified To Increase Its Supply. Can The Supply Of Organic Soybeans Meet The Demands Of The World Population?

Actually the supply of GE soybeans will be decreased instead of increased. It only serves to reduce production costs and help the farmer to save money. Currently, the supply of any type of GE crop has never surpassed the supply of crop cultivated with the conventional method. In fact, GE crops require more water and fertilizer. One feature of the GE crops is that they can withstand “Round-Up”, the weed killer. “Round-Up” is a chemical agent. When it contacts the green leaf, it disrupts the ability of the plant’s photosynthesis necessary for the plant to grow. It robs the photosynthesis of that plant, killing the plant. Not only does “Round-Up” kill the weeds, it also kills all the microorganisms in the soil.

Traditionally in a large-scale agricultural establishment, before seeds are planted, they spray the ground with “Round-Up” and it produces what the industry calls “clean field” – which is actually poisonous field. Next, they scatter soybean seeds in the field. However, new weeds will grow and affect the growth of the soybean plants. Hence, they pay people to take out the weeds, but with “Round-Up”, they don’t have to do this. While the soybeans are growing, they fly a plane and spray “Round-Up”. All plants are killed except soybeans which are able to tolerate the “Round-Up”.

However, the photosynthesis ability of the soybean plant will still be affected, hence its supply is lesser than soybeans cultivated with the traditional method. Farmers save on the manpower cost of hiring people to remove weeds, their profits will increase. This would also mean the weeders losing their jobs. They modified the soybeans for higher profits, not to increase its supply.

Meanwhile, tremendous amount of “Round-Up” is used while growing plants and it cleans up organic life. The company, Mosanto, is responsible for this. They produce GE soybeans to earn billions of US dollars every year. They also sell “Round-Up” worth thousands of millions of US dollars to farmers. This is their real purpose of producing GE soybeans, not to increase its output.

Millions of people are suffering from diseases due to a lack of Vitamin A, especially those from financially poor countries, the children are deficient in Vitamin A. Many have died from this deficiency. There is a type of GE rice called “Golden Rice”, which contains Vitamin A. Ideally, Golden Rice is to help provide these children with Vitamin A, so that they will not develop eye disease. This is a good idea. However, Mosanto spent only 100 thousand US dollars to develop Golden Rice but spent 20 millions on advertising the benefits of Golden Rice. This US$20 million is donated by Rockerfella Trust Fund and the Swiss government. Mosanto did not use a single cent to advertise, it used only US$100 thousand to do research on the production of the Golden Rice. Golden Rice has to be grown in extremely so-called controlled condition and requires tremendous amount of fertilizers and irrigation water. Fertilizers are expensive in Third World countries. These countries lack water as well. Nutrition wise, a 7-year-old child would have to eat 35 cups of cooked Golden Rice to get enough Vitamin A. So it has a very small amount of Vitamin A. This reflects the company was out to make profit and not to help people.

If they really want to help people, they should carry out research on genetic engineering that will produce crops that are drought tolerant, or improve the quality of the crop so that they can grow well even in poor soil, or increase the protein level in the crops, or make it so that it can grow very easily with very low cost. Currently, we do not have any GE research that fulfils the above requirements.

Let me tell you my background: My father and uncle set up the Baskin Robbins ice-cream company. This is a very successful company which was the largest in the world a few years ago. They earn billions of US dollars every year.

I am the only son at home. My father hoped that I would take over his business one day. But deep in my heart, I know this is not what I want to do in my life, it is just something that my father wants me to do. So I gave up everything, including his money. I have never taken a single cent from him in my life.

Supplementing Your Diet

Given the world in which we live, most of us would benefit greatly from added nutritional support. However, choosing pure, safe and effective supplements can be a slippery slope. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of dietary supplements are simply a blend of isolated, synthetic chemical nutrients. Although these products are often marketed as “natural”, they are actually as unnatural as plastic. This is because they are both isolatedand synthetic.

Any fruit, vegetable, grain, herb or other botanical contains 100’s of phytochemicals that collectively define its form and function. It is much like a house. We look at a house and we see “a house”. But that house is actually many synergistic elements cooperating with one another to create “a house”: trusses, plywood, electrical wiring, nails, roofing, plaster board, piping, subflooring, beams, insulation material, sheathing, windows, doors, etc. It would never occur to us to look at a bag of nails and say “house” and expect those nails to provide all the benefits a house offers to us. Yet, this is exactly what many supplement manufacturers do—isolate individual elements from a botanical. In doing so, the wholeness and value of the botanical or “house” is destroyed.

As an example let’s consider vitamin C. In the early 1900’s doctors and scientists noticed that when people were deprived of fresh fruits and vegetables, they developed problems with their connective tissue (scurvy) and immune systems. Further study revealed that certain fruits and vegetables, such as citrus fruits and red peppers, seemed to be particularly effective in correcting these problems. They continued studying these foods and found that the foods contained an abundance of a particular group of phytochemicals that later became identified as vitamin C (note: there is no single phytochemical or molecule called vitamin C). One of these phytochemicals was named ascorbic acid. In an effort to deliver the benefits of vitamin C efficiently, scientists successfully extracted the ascorbic acid molecule and gave it to people suffering from symptoms of vitamin C deficiency. An interesting thing happened—nothing. The scientists quickly determined that administering concentrated red pepper paste was far more effective than administering isolated ascorbic acid—even though the red pepper paste contained only a few milligrams of ascorbic acid. As a result, the scientist who first identified vitamin C, and subsequently isolated ascorbic acid, did not recommend its use. In fact, later in his life, he regretted the research.

However, the pharmaceutical industry embraced the notion of isolated phytochemicals as cheap, convenient alternatives to food, and then they took it a step further and began actually synthesizing the molecules in a laboratory (also known as USP vitamins and minerals). For example, when most people look at a bottle label of vitamin C and see “ascorbic acid”, they assume it is extracted from citrus (or some other fruit). In fact it is not. Ascorbic acid is manufactured by treating a sugar glucose molecule (usually extracted from genetically modified corn) with sulfuric acid (battery acid). This effectively changes the chemical structure of the glucose to mimic ascorbic acid.

We can only wonder what our body does with an isolated glucose molecule that is masquerading as ascorbic acid. You can almost imagine the internal dialogue: Our body is poised to receive a luscious, sun-ripened orange. All its systems have been perfectly adapted over 100,000’s of years to digest the orange and utilize the 100’s of phytochemicals it contains to construct bone, skin, tendons, vein walls and manufacture white blood cells (as well as many other activities)—our body is primed and ready. Instead, in comes this bizarre looking ascorbic acid molecule, 100’s, maybe 1000’s, of them. “What the heck is this?” The signal goes out, “Red alert, red alert, we’re being invaded by an army of glucose molecules.” All systems are quickly activated to eject the threatening molecule as quickly as possible. Doesn’t sound very healthy, does it?

Fortunately, although they are rare and hard to find, there are some nutritional supplements that really are concentrated whole-foods and botanicals, and not just isolated USP synthetic nutrients. However, supplement selection is a bit more complicated than simply choosing whole-food products. One of the reasons manufacturers use USP nutrients is that it is cheap and easy to quantify and control their potency. It is also easy to pour a synthetic white powder into a capsule (or press it into a tablet) and package it. However, by their very nature, foods are variable in their nutrient and phytochemical content depending upon how they are grown and harvested. Additionally, the nutrients and phytochemicals in food are fragile. Many of them deteriorate quickly after harvest when exposed to light, oxygen and heat. It is also challenging to fill capsules or press tablets with whole food ingredients. Selection is made even more complicated by the fact that whole foods are far more expensive than isolated chemicals. Thus, nearly all manufacturers utilize inferior food ingredients as a way of controlling costs.

One of the most valuable types of whole food supplements is green superfood blends, such as Bliss De Light. If superior ingredients are utilized, these formulas offer an abundance of the enzymes, life-giving oxygen, and life energy. The very special algae, grass juices, sprouts, vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, and tonic herbs are concentrated sources of detoxifying enzymes, trace minerals, chlorophyll (and other beneficial pigments), amino acids and other active constituents. However, for this to be true, the ingredients must be grown without chemicals (organic), harvested with great care, dried at low temperatures and packaged very carefully. Just as with food you might consume at a meal, green food supplements must be alive and bioavailable.

Many factors influence the viability of superfoods ingredients (please see the article in this newsletter A Tradition of Healing). For instance, my research at UCLA revealed that wildcrafted and organically grown botanicals offered more nutrients, phytochemicals and life force energy than conventionally farmed botanicals. This is because plants extract their nourishment from their surrounding environment. Wild soils and the soils on organic farms are teeming with nutrients, enzymes and microorganisms, which result from the natural cycle of composting that occurs in nature and is replicated on organic farms. Plants growing in these fertile soils receive a myriad of nutrients and not just the few included in the chemical fertilizers applied by conventional farmers. Plants, in turn, use these nutrients to produce phytochemicals.

Interestingly, many of the phytochemicals scientists have identified as being highly beneficial to human health are actually created by the plants to protect themselves from pests and disease. The absence of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides actually requires a plant to increase its immunity via the creation of phytochemicals. In other words, phytochemicals are the plant’s immune system, and just as human children develop strong immune systems through exposure to childhood illness, so do plants. We, in turn, benefit from these plant based phytochemicals when we consume organically grown or wildcrafted botanicals.

Time of harvest is another important consideration. Different nutrients, phytochemicals and enzymes reach optimal concentrations at distinct stages of plant growth. In other words, wheat grass must be harvested at a particular stage of growth to optimize its amino acids and enzyme profile, and camu camu berries must be harvested at a particular stage of development to achieve the greatest levels of vitamin C. It is then necessary to consider what form of the botanical is most efficacious: juice, whole leaf or concentrate? Irrespective of the form, once harvest has occurred, the botanical must be processed very carefully to ensure that all the beneficial active constituents remain viable. In most cases this means that it must be chilled immediately, and then quickly juiced, dried or concentrated. Drying must also occur quickly, at low temperatures, to preserve heat-sensitive enzymes and nutrients. Finally, the finished product should be vacuum-packed in glass to protect the ingredients from destructive exposure to light and oxygen. Otherwise, the phytochemicals will deteriorate within a very brief period of time.

All of the above determine the quality of a whole-food or botanical ingredient.  However, the steps to ensure quality are expensive and many manufacturers cut corners in these areas.  Wheatgrass juice is a good example.  It is challenging and costly to harvest field-grown wheatgrass at the optimal stage of development, quickly juice it and then dry it at very low temperatures.   Yet, if you don’t do all these things, its value will be greatly diminished.   To avoid this expense, most manufacturers do one of two things: use whole leaf wheatgrass powder or dry the wheatgrass onto a cheap highly processed carrier material.  The nutrients in wheatgrass powder are trapped by tough cellulose fibers that humans can’t digest.  So, although the nutrients might be in the grass, they are not available to our bodies.  This is why we juice wheatgrass.  Alternatively, some manufacturers juice the wheatgrass and then dry it onto maltodextrin (high sugar cornstarch).   In fact, many wheatgrass juice products are actually up to 50% maltodextrin.  Not only does maltodextrin have no nutritive value, it is also a likely source of genetically modified materials.  Thus the reasons we include only 100% wheatgrass juice powder in Bliss De Light superfood powder.  In addition to whole wheatgrass, other green food products commonly contain other cheap ingredients that create a lot of bulk but contribute very little nutritional value such as: apple pectin or fiber, and rice bran.

Not all whole-food supplements are in powder form, and this creates another challenge.  Automated machinery forms tablets and fills capsules, and numerous undesirable chemicals are often added to facilitate this process.   Fillers (such as maltodextrin) are added to increase volume and fill up a capsule.  Flow agents (such as stearates) are added to make the material slippery so that it will flow easily into a capsule.  Stearates are also added to tablets to enhance compression.  Colorings are added to improve appearance, and synthetic or insect– derived coatings are applied to help bind.  These are all ingredients we would avoid like the plague in our meals, but routinely swallow in our supplements.  What’s worse is that studies show that some of these, such as stearates, actually interfere with the absorption of the beneficial active constituents and nutrients in the tablet or capsule.  Unfortunately almost all supplements contain these undesirable ingredients.  However, Bliss De Light superfood powder and Pure Radiance C contain no synthetic additives of any kind – only 100% pure, organic life giving whole-foods.

EFFECTIVE MICROORGANISM

Effective Microorganism (EM) was discovered by a horticulture professor in Ryukyu, Japan. He collected 80 cultures that were beneficial to human body and attempted to test their impact on cultivation. After the results on each of the cultures showed no significant difference in their impact, he poured all the cultures together onto a lawn and accidentally discovered to his surprise that the mixture of these human-benefiting cultures highly benefited plant growth. The investigation revealed that the mixture of the cultures could quickly dissolve toxic chemical substance. Adding the cultures to septic tanks causes the water to become clear. This product was later used for purifying polluted rivers.

Although manufacturers state that the product can only be used for agriculture purpose (dilute 100 times, spray along pathway but not directly on the roots of plants), Dr Lai suggested after her experiments that this product can be used in many areas. For example, drinking water that contains EM (one teaspoon to a cup of water) helps dissolve the toxin in the body; adding a small amount of EM into the water used for washing non-organic fruits and vegetables will also help remove some pesticides. Dr Lai has also discovered that EM can elevate overall energy. For instance, adding a small amount of EM into the water for cooking rice, the cooked rice will have a much higher energy; using diluted EM to wipe tables and floors or spray into the air will also increase the energy in the house while having the air cleaning effect; adding EM into bath water (at least one to two tablespoons; you can soak your head as well) helps removing the pollutants accumulated in your body throughout the day.

The first time my husband and I (normal body constitution) drank water with EM, we soon ran to the toilet. From then on I frequently add some EM into drinking water to conveniently detoxify. I even heard from friends (mostly very ill) who drank EM in large amount (half a bowl of non-diluted EM) for detoxification and received good effects. Some friends mix EM with molasses for their children and the children love it. For oral in-take of EM, please pay special attention to the effective date and whether the product smells bad. Make sure the quality of EM is good before drinking. Because of the serious pollution in the environment, we must carefully check if there is any mutation in the culture.

You can also cultivate your own EM. Pour three capfuls of EM into a light-proof container, add same amount of molasses, then dilute with 1000cc of water. Keep the mixture in room temperature for 3 days and it will be ready for use. This home-cultivated EM can be used as a spray for the surrounding environment or sprayed on leftover or waste from kitchen or on compost (this prevents the compost from becoming smelly and speeds up the decomposition). However, home-cultivated EM is not recommended to be used as a culture to make new EM and it is not suitable for oral intake.

The baby of a friend tends to drink bath water while taking bath. I suggested that my friend be a little flexible and add a small amount of EM into the bath water (note: we do not use soap on babies); unexpectedly she found the baby’s prickly heat gone without any medication. She also put EM that has been diluted 1000 times next to the toilet. One capful of the diluted EM is poured into the toilet after passing urine, this way it does not smell even if the toilet is not flushed (what a super saving). You probably think that this is too much trouble. However, if you know that the amount of water used from flushing toilet is ? of a household’s annual water consumption, you would understand why environmental protectionists are making such effort.

My other experience was on insect-infected roots of the lawn at a friend’s home. More and more parts of the lawn had withered, but there were concerns that if pest control company was hired to spray pesticide, the kids would not get to play on the lawn. Thus, my friend asked for my opinion. I reckoned that for plants to have attracted insects, the cause could be an unbalanced soil nutrients; perhaps increasing the richness of the soil will improve the soil condition. So I gave her some organic compound such as rock powder and suggested that she also spray some EM. It turned out that she only sprayed the EM twice (two weeks apart) without doing any thing else, and the withered lawn began to return to shining green. Not only that this method incurred a much lower cost than hiring a pest control company, it also gives consideration to environmental protection.

Mr. You, an old man who had cancer, was suffering from festering pus in both legs, and had trouble healing the wound. Later, whenever his son had free time, he would use EM as hydrogen peroxide solution or iodine tincture to clean the father’s wound, then a thick mixture of friendly bacteria (acidophilus and bulgaricus) is applied. When the application dried up, he soaked the legs in EM to wash off the friendly bacteria. Consequently, both legs recovered completely after repeated treatments.

Given that EM can be used to clean rivers, if every household uses EM, we are not only benefiting ourselves but also helping with the recovery of the earth since EM used will be flushed through the drainage into nature. Thus, whenever people ask if I know of any good staff, my first suggestion is always to buy a bottle of EM for use.

Qi REGULATOR (Pendulum)
This special tube that many people call energy tester is made of copper. It is frequently used to test energy and many are unaware that the tube also has the function of regulating qi.

Using the qi regulator to dowse the energy of food or a person is quite effective because copper is very sensitive to subtle energy and thus moves easily. Besides, copper is heavier than other metals, that makes it easier when it comes to counting the number of rotations. Other than dowsing for the quality of food and whether certain food combination is good or bad, I also use the qi regulator to test and measure the energy of people, the environment (feng shui) or ask questions, but this requires repeated practice (please refer to Dr Chiu-Nan Lai’s book Return to the Bliss of Body)

Recently, I am experimenting the number combinations (discovered by a Japanese, Dong Fang Xingqi [东方兴起]) that Dr Lai told me for preventing microwaves and electromagnetic waves. Simply use a green-ink pen to write down these combinations (microwaves prevention: #95*59#; electromagnetic waves prevention: #535000*5*#) on papers and stick them on mobile phones or electronic equipments; this will lower the interferences of microwaves and electromagnetic waves. The discoverer, Mr. Dong Fang Xingqi also recommends keying in the combination of #535000*5*# into computer, telephone or fax machine once a day to lower the vibrating energy. Whereas for mobile phones, dial the combination of #95*59# at least three times daily. Also, I have followed Dr Lai by pasting papers written with these combinations on windows or keeping them in my pockets. I realized an immediate change in my energy and the house energy. Why don’t you give it a try?

Concerning qi regulating, I remember a story Dr Lai told us during her workshop on regulating qi using a qi regulator. She said when she was in India, she helped someone regulating qi. The person experienced immediate effect after being sick for a long time. So an offer was made to Dr Lai to buy her qi regulator at a high price. The qi regulating process is actually quite simple. Simply hold the qi regulator above the painful or sick area and let the regulator move on its own. If it moves clockwise, it means qi is lacking and it brings in good qi; if it moves counter-clockwise, it means there is bad qi and it is releasing the bad qi. The regulator will keep moving left and right. You may stop when it almost comes to a halt. You can repeat regulating qi at your free time; the frequency depends on your individual need. You may find it difficult to hold the regulator above certain parts of your body. You can ask others to help regulate your qi or you can do it yourself by placing one palm on the part that needs attention to connect the qi while the other hand holding the qi regulator and let it swirl on its own. This is another level of qi regulating, you can even use a drawn human-figure, tell yourself that he figure represents you, then regulate your qi by dowsing on the figure. However, this is a very high level of qi regulating.

In the process of qi regulating, try to visualize sending negative qi into soil as compost. A friend commented that if the visualization is not done with full concentration, sometimes the bad qi would stay around. One method to purify the energy field is: add about 300cc of 60-80% alcohol into a steel cup filled with half a pound of Epsom salts or sea salt. Burn the mixture and walk one round across the room. You will notice that as you pass through areas with more negative qi, the fire becomes fiercer.

When my child is not feeling well, I help her regulate qi so that she recovers faster. But my qi -regulating aid goes mostly to friends. A friend of mine was suffering from stomach ulcer; I happened to have a qi regulator with me, so I helped regulate her qi. Although she did not feel anything special and she could not get the regulator to actually move, she still borrowed it home with some doubt in mind. One day, when she was in a lying position trying to regulate her qi, the qi regulator was making such big circles that it kept hitting her elbow. Only then that she believed the qi regulator moved on its own and not because her hand was shaking.

A friend had a ringing sensation on her left ear, as if she was hearing her own heart beat. Her numerous consultations with doctors told her there was nothing wrong but her own imagination. From her description, I felt that it sounded like qi blockage. So I offered to help her regulate qi. During the regulating process, she could clearly feel a burst of warm energy rushing out. People who are sensitive to qi generally feel warmth, numbness or flow of qi during a qi-regulating process. However, most people may not have these feelings.

Once, I lent my qi regulator to my Tai Chi teacher who was very sensitive to qi. He played with it for two days and told me that even just holding the regulator in the hand, there was a qi-regulating effect. He had once fallen and hurt his back and his qi had not been flowing smoothly around the area. When he held the regulator in his hand during his sleep, the regulator continuously regulated his qi.

Once, a Mrs Ke had a sudden gastric attack and was very anxious. After I helped her regulating her qi, she felt much better and borrowed the regulator from me. But only after two days she returned it because the regulator would not move when she tried it herself. I thought of what my Tai Chi teacher said and explained to her that by holding the regulator in her sleep would also help regulating her qi. I recommended that she try it. Later, she was very happy to share with me the surprising effect that since she has been sleeping with the qi regulator (Mrs Ke cleverly slips the regulator underneath her bra, which means that she has been placing the regulator above her stomach), she can easily sleep for up to five full hours and when she wakes up, her stomach feels soft and comfortable. This is very different from the past as she had frequent micturition; she usually slept for less than three hours and had to get up to go to toilet and then had difficulty falling asleep again, and whenever she woke up, the stomach was very hard.

There was a period of time she slept without the regulator, the frequent micturition problem returned. When she resumed the usage of qi regulator, she unexpectedly experienced walking difficulty after she woke up and went to toilet. Therefore, she returned to bed, and again, smartly moved the qi regulator to her bottom. Twenty minutes later, she got up and was able to walk as usual (my guess was that her qi was blocked between her bottom and the thighs). Over six months later, I visited Mrs Ke again. She told me that the qi regulator has been useful all along. Her daughter said the qi regulator was one of the treasures of the mother.

Another friend shared with me that if one regulates qi right after getting a bump or being scalded, the skin is less likely to get bruises or blisters.

We generally tend to our physical body when we are sick. According to Rudolf Steiner, a human being has four bodies: ego body, astral body, etheric body and physical body. Since it is so, wouldn’t it be faster to directly work on our etheric body when we are sick? This is also why qi regulating is useful. However, if the pain or illness is due to emotional distress, merely regulating qi without thought transformation can only temporarily relieve pain.

The qi regulator I use is a traditional copper tube made of spiral copper wire. The design accommodates faster qi regulating. Actually, in case of urgent need, anything you can conveniently grab, even a string, can be used to regulate qi; it is just that metals transmit qi at a faster speed. For individual qi-regulating conditions, you will need to learn through practice.

WHITE CHARCOAL
White Charcoal is an activated carbon produced from the process of firing wood at the temperature of 1000 degree C. While it is still burning, the wood is removed from the kiln and coated with cooling powder made from ash and soil, and then set aside to cool off. The white charcoal is durable and is hard as metal. Since the countless tiny holes in a piece of white charcoal can absorb contaminants, release infrared, produce ions, induce growth of friendly microorganisms and has a preventive effect against electromagnetic waves, white charcoal can also be used for cleaning air, purifying water, cooking, improving blood circulation and sleep, warming up the body system, getting rid of chill, and strengthening the yang energy. White Charcoal is a very good health product.

I frequently use white charcoal to purify my drinking water and bath water. I was asked how I treat my household drinking water. Firstly, I installed a water filter at the water faucet. Secondly, I store the filtered water in a transparent plastic container and boost the energy of water using a water crystal energizer set invented by Dr Lai’s father (I have experimented it myself: repeatedly charging the water crystal energizer set on water or food; their energy keeps rising. So I usually charge for a few more seconds while chanting mantra and dedicating the merit to the inventors, promoters and water source), and then pour the water into a big jug which has white charcoal and wheat rice stone that further purify water and release minerals into water. Sometimes I also add a tiny bit of EM to increase friendly bacteria in the water.

Of these things, the water filter is replaced once a year, with the cost of about US$50. The small bag of wheat rice stone only shrinks a little after three years of usage, whereas the water crystal energizer set and white charcoal can be used “indefinitely”. With such low costs, I get satisfactorily extra high quality water for the household!

White Charcoal can be used in many ways. There are books on white charcoal available at bookshops. My friend’s mother who had sleep problem placed charcoal next to her pillow to help with her sleep. Friends who use white charcoal for bath (one to two pounds; the effect is even more obvious is chlorine is filtered from the water) all agree that they feel especially light and comfortable. A friend who had lower back pain followed my suggestion of bathing with white charcoal; since then this has become her favourite. She even bought many white charcoal for her friends and relatives. Another friend attempted to wrap white charcoal around a cellular phone antenna and found the interference turned into positive energy. I also heard from Dr Lai that she once had a cough due to EMF interference. She followed her instinct by placing white charcoal on her navel; it turned out that white charcoal even has cough relieving effect.

I feel that besides its numerous wonderful uses, it is most appreciated that white charcoal can be continuously renewed by having it cooked in boiling water for 15 minutes every one to two months (exposing it to hut sun after cooking will better restore its energy). This product is not only healthy but also environmental friendly.

ORGANIC SUNFLOWER OIL
Swishing with organic sunflower oil has always been my favourite way of detoxifying because most detoxification methods more or less involve some reactions, but by swishing with sunflower oil (upon rising or at a set time everyday, swish for 15 minutes, then spit out), toxin from the body is directly extracted through the mouth and hence there is no commonly seen detoxifying reactions. The colour of the oil spit out indicates the level of toxin being extracted. If the oil is white in colour, that means the body has accumulated a lot of toxin, if the colour is close to the colour of oil, it means the body is less polluted.

Before both of my pregnancies, my husband and I were diligent in swishing sunflower oil everyday. We did it until the colour of the spit-out oil was the same as the colour of oil. So I did not get morning sickness during my pregnancy and the babies were born very healthy. Besides, whenever I get sick and have heavy phlegm, I would swish with sunflower oil to get rid of the phlegm. Some friends told me they spit out the oil within 5 minutes of swishing because their mouths were full of phlegm.

My friend, a teacher, used to get lots of phlegm every morning after rising. When she got to school, she always had to clear her throat before she could start talking. She received very good results from swishing sunflower oil and she felt unusually refreshed. Since then this has become her regular morning homework.

Dr Lai said as long as the oil is cold-pressed, it can be used for swishing. The reason for using organic cold-pressed oil is because organic oil has higher energy and yields better detoxification results. There was a short period of time my friend was not able to get sunflower oil, so she replaced it with cold-pressed olive oil. But according to her, the result was not quite the same; her mouth felt very clean but the effect of getting rid of phlegm was not as good as that of sunflower oil.

A young friend who grew up in the US read the magazine article that introduced the sunflower-oil swishing method. Because his Chinese was not very good, he did not fully understand the article. He went home and simply used the vegetable oil that was normally used for stir frying; he just kept the oil in his mouth (but not swishing) for 15 minutes and then spit out. But he told me that it was very effective because a large portion of the pimples on his face was gone.

Another friend has poor lungs since she was little. She said it took her half-a-year to realise the effect. For the first half-a-year, she only spit out white-coloured oil, but after that, bits and bits of solid sputum started to come out. This shows that oil-swishing takes time, patience and persistence. My own experience is that the longer the swishing time, the more toxins are extracted. If I swish for only 15 minutes, the oil spit out probably has its original colour, but if I continue and swish for a total of ? hour, the oil spit out will be white in colour. If I eat out, the oil I spit out the next day is usually whiter.

Additionally, I also use sunflower oil for oil bath (please refer to Return to the Bliss of Body by Dr Lai for details) especially when my qi is weak or when I catch a cold. This is because oil bath has the effect of warming the body and getting rid of chills. Taking oil bath is also very good for the health of a pregnant woman and the foetus.

It seems that I have an endless list of home treasures such as peat moss, electrilizer, qi regulator, water crystal energizer set, friendly bacteria and so on, but you need to try them yourself to actually realise their benefits. The Magic of Selenium

We are taking a slight detour from reporting on subtle energy as related to healing in order to present some very interesting research on nutrition.
At the Canadian Society of Questor’s Conference in 100-Mile House the keynote speaker was Dr. Harold Foster, University of Victoria Professor of Geography. He gave one of the most astounding lectures we have heard in a long time. He is a medical geographer who looks geographically where diseases occur, or do not occur, and studies the reasons why.

AIDS: A Nutritional Disease

In his research, Dr. Foster noted that AIDS is epidemic in most sub-Saharan African countries except one, Senegal.  Why would Senegal have such a low AIDS rate (1-2%) when in all of the surrounding countries it is so high, sometimes in excess of 25% of the population?  After many years of research, Dr. Foster has evidence that a deficiency of the trace-mineral selenium and three amino acids can cause all of the symptoms of AIDS, with or without the HIV virus.  In sub-Saharan Africa, only Senegal has abundant selenium in the soil and water and adequate nutrition (amino acids).

These nutrients are not a cure for HIV infection. However, research studies found that high doses of selenium and the three amino acids (cysteine, glutamine, and tryptophan) given to AIDS patients, some bed ridden, eliminated most of the AIDS symptoms.  Sometimes in as little as two or three weeks patients were symptom free and some  returned to work in as little as one month.

Dr. Foster now has ongoing studies in Uganda and Zambia to study the effects of selenium and these three amino acids on large numbers of AIDS patients. Recently Dr. Foster wrote about a double-blind clinical study; “The news from the Ugandan 300 patient trial is very good. Many are recovering rapidly.”

Why Does HIV Infection Become AIDS?

Selenium and the three amino acids are necessary for the body to produce  glutathione peroxidase which is essential for the human immune system to be healthy, and is also important for many other vital body functions.  Research  indicates that the HIV virus needs selenium and the three amino acids in order to make viral proteins.  The HIV virus is very good at robbing these vital nutrients from the human body it has infected, leaving the body malnourished.  Thus, infection with HIV leaves the human body with a depressed immune system. Unless there is a replacement of nutrients, it leaves the body unable to fight off infection with the opportunistic diseases which characterize AIDS.

Cancer and Other Diseases

HIV I and II are not the only viruses that rob these nutrients from the human body. The viruses of Hepatitis A, B, and C, Coxsackie B (thought to be responsible for ¼ of heart attacks ),  and other viruses  (which encode for a glutathione peroxidase) leave the human body  depleted of the necessary nutrients to keep the immune system healthy and functional.  Selenium deficiency is also implicated in many cancers, thyroid malfunction, senility, and depression.  Some researchers have estimated that as many as 1/3 of the patients in hospitals for depression are simply selenium deficient.

In the 1970’s and 80’s before many of us had even heard of HIV/AIDS, researchers were studying the relationship of selenium deficiency to cancer.  Dr. Foster noted that Senegal, the African country with such high levels of selenium and low rates of HIV/AIDS infection, is also one of the lowest places on earth for cancer.

In one cancer study by P.D. Whanger, patients were given 200 mcg/day of selenium for 4.5 years with a 6.4 year follow up.  Selenium supplementation not only reduced cancer mortality, but also decrease total mortality.  The significant reductions in cancer  mortality were: prostate cancer 64%, colorectal cancer 58%, and lung cancer 46%. The Disease Belt

In China, there is a large area from the northeast to the southwest that is called the “Disease Belt”. The Chinese government added selenium  to the soils, table salt, and animal feed-stocks  and subsequently found a significant reduction in Hepatitis B and C and Keshan’s disease (a heart disease caused by Coxsackie B virus).  In one study of 21,000 people given selenium in their table salt, the hepatitis infection rate dropped more than 50%.

Selenium Bio-availability

We get our necessary amount of selenium from the foods that we eat or from supplementation.  Food grown on selenium-deficient soil and animals fed selenium-deficient food-stocks are contributing to a decrease in selenium in the food chain.

Atmospheric pollution in the rainfall, such as mercury and sulfur, combine with selenium to form insoluble compounds which are unavailable to plants and animals.

In recent years acid rain has changed the pH of the soil decreasing the bio-availability of selenium. Soil acidification lowers the abundance of selenium in the global food chain which may be contributing to the rapid rise of cancers and HIV/AIDS.

Toxic Levels of Selenium

Many people think that selenium is highly toxic. While an overdose is possible, a healthy person needs about 200 mcg/day, however  an HIV infected individual may need 10 times that amount for a while to bring selenium to a healthy level.  The first indications of toxicity are garlic breath and yellow finger nails which occur in some people at about 900 mcg/day.

We have tried to make a very complicated subject readable for most everyone. We have only  touched the tip of the iceberg concerning the health effects of selenium and the three amino acids, as well as the environmental reasons of why selenium is being depleted in the food chain world wide.  If you are interested in more information there are many sources on the Internet.

8 Amazing Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar

If you only use apple cider vinegar on your salad, you’re seriously underestimating its potential. Raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (often abbreviated as ACV) can be used in so many ways that by the end of this article you may start keeping a bottle in every room of your house, not just the fridge! You can use apple cider vinegar for hair and skin care, household cleaning, healing and cooking.

What kind of apple cider vinegar?

Get the good stuff. By “the good stuff,” I mean raw, organic, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. We’re big fans of Bragg’s apple cider vinegar. If you’ve got a good bottle of apple cider vinegar, you should see some strand-like sediment floating at the bottom. No, your vinegar hasn’t gone bad—that gunky-looking stuff at the bottom is the most important part! It’s called “the mother,” and it contains raw enzymes and gut-friendly bacteria that promote healing. In the “picture” above, you can see what the mother looks like floating around at the bottom of the bottle (I gave it a vigorous shake first so you can see it better).

1.Eat and/or drink it, of course!Since apple cider vinegar is, first and foremost, a food product, I would be remiss if I didn’t first fill you in on its nutritional value and health benefits first.

Apple cider vinegar lowers glucose levels, and may be helpful for diabetics. It has also been touted as a weight-loss aid, as it is said to help you feel fuller and eat less. The enzymes in apple cider vinegar also promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut, and can help regulate candida issues.

How to take apple cider vinegar orally: Mix 1 tablespoon with a cup of water or herbal tea. (Apple cider vinegar is quite strong, and when taken straight can be harsh on the esophagus, so you’ll want to dilute it).

And, of course, apple cider vinegar is a classic salad dressing ingredient, which you can definitely get a little creative with! While olive oil, the most commonly used oil for salad dressing, is not permitted on the therapy, you can mix your ACV with flax oil and lemon or orange juice, and perhaps even whirr it all together in a blender with a clove of garlic and a bit of onion. I even like to just drizzle it on my salad plain! 2.Relieve gas, bloating and heartburnApple cider vinegar can also be very helpful in reducing gas and bloating. Just take a tablespoon of ACV diluted in water or tea before a meal. It can also help ameliorate symptoms of heartburn. Take a dose as soon as you feel heartburn symptoms coming on.

3.Promote alkalinityDespite its acidic taste, apple cider vinegar actually promotes alkalinity in the body. As Charlotte Gerson says, “cancer cannot live in an alkaline body,” and one of the primary ways the Gerson Therapy battles cancer and other diseases is by bringing the body into an alkaline state which makes it an inhospitable environment for cancer.

4.Non-toxic cleaning sprayMost cleaning supplies are full of harsh chemicals, so apple cider vinegar can surprisingly provide an excellent, cheap alternative to many cleaning products. It absorbs odors and has antibacterial properties.

Simply mix one part apple cider vinegar to one part water, and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on hard surfaces such as hardwood floors, bathroom tiles, cabinets and countertops, then wipe it off with a rag.

5.Hair careApple cider vinegar, when used as a rinse, will make your hair feel smooth and shiny, and provide a bit of extra clarification to remove oil and dirt. It balances your hair’s pH, which helps seal the cuticle and make the hair smoother. It can also help with dandruff, clear away greasy build-up, and soothe itchiness and irritation of the scalp.

Simply mix a tablespoon or two in a glass of water, and rinse your hair with it at the end of your bath. Make sure to rinse it out well afterwards, or your hair might feel a little crunchy.

Don’t worry, the vinegar smell will dissipate once your hair dries, so you don’t have to go around smelling like salad all day (not that that’s a bad thing!).

6.Skin careWhile one of the promised benefits of detoxification is clear skin, anyone who has done the Gerson Therapy or another type of intensive detox can probably agree that the road to clear skin can be fraught with blemishes. As your body releases toxins from your blood and tissue, some toxins make their exits through the skin in the form of pimples, rashes and other angry red eruptions.

You can use apple cider vinegar as an astringent, by soaking a washcloth/cotton pad in diluted ACV and applying it to your face. Or, you can simply dab it right onto blemishes to dry them out and heal them.

It’s amazing how smooth your skin feels after applying ACV, it tightens and plumps it a bit, and can help reduce or minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

7.Sunburn reliefWhile you should always strive to avoid skin damage by not staying out in the sun uncovered for more than 15 minutes, if you do accidentally find yourself burnt to a crisp, you can use apple cider vinegar to neutralize the burn. Dilute it in water and pat on the sore skin, or add a cupful to your bath.

8.DeodorantMost commercial deodorants are antiperspirants, which block your ability to sweat. Since sweat is one of your body’s natural means of detoxification, blocking your ability to sweat can block your ability to detoxify. Plus, most drugstore deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminum and a host of unpronounceable chemicals and synthetic fragrances, so you want to avoid them anyway.

So, it might sound a little crazy, but you can actually use apple cider vinegar as a natural deodorant! Apple cider vinegar absorbs and neutralizes stinky scents. Simply rub a bit of ACV in your underarms and it will absorb and minimize body odors. The vinegary smell dissipates once it dries.

While I’ve listed 8 uses for apple cider vinegar here, I’ve heard of many other creative uses, including using it as a flea bath for pets and to get rid of warts. I only listed things that I’ve personally tried out for myself, but I can only imagine the vast number of other uses floating around out there!
