Creating A Happy Marriage in the Golden Era

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Our major task in life is perhaps to find out how mankind can live harmoniously with each other and settle their differences. In history, conflicts in politics, racial, religious, or economics have generally been resolved not by peaceful means but by avoidance, separation, or war. Several state boundaries have been created this way. Nevertheless, none of these differences is as serious as those that exist between men and women either physically, mentally, or emotionally.

These fundamental differences result in communication problems. In the past thousands of years, the two genders have been engaged in avoiding each other or have ‘cold war’ with each other. Because of men’s superiority in physical strength, men have invariably held the upper hand in male-female relationships. For example, in terms of marriage, men have been held as the master of the house; women have been considered second-class citizens of the home even in terms of property. One of the ten commandments in the Old Testament says, “Do not cover your neighbor’s house, nor his wife, or any of his male servants, female servants, cows, asses, or anything that your neighbor possesses.” In China, women and people of low positions are placed at the same rank. Women are commonly perceived to fulfil the role of bearing children for family succession and to satisfy the sexual desires of men. It was common for men to have many wives, and love was the sacrificial item. Slaves can never become intimate friends. For thousands of years, the relation between men and women has been marked by distrust, hatred, sorrow, and coldness; this pain is in our blood.

This century has brought a revolutionary change. Many countries gave women equal opportunities in politics, property rights and education. Changes have also been brought about in the area of marriage. Astrology indicates that we have entered the Aquarian age, where mankind has become more sensitive, and males and females practice equality. Nevertheless, because of the painful memories and habits of the past, many marriages continue to fail. Western experts think that about 80% of all marriages have problems, and more than 50% of marriages are completely broken and lead to divorces. In this age where it is common for the new to replace the old, understanding and learning about the spouse before and after marriage require huge investments in time. We cannot leave it to nature, and it is like trying to grow a sapling on barren ground; it is bound to fail if left to nature.

Professor Harley, an American marriage counsellor, was originally a child psychologist in a school. He found that problem kids came from homes with problem marriages. If he could counsel the parents to improve their marriage, the child’s problems can be naturally resolved. As a result of this observation, he changed his profession to that of a marriage counsellor. He used his lifelong experience (his father was also a marriage counsellor) to write two books – ‘His Needs, Her Needs’ (published by Lapis Lazuli Light) and “Love Busters.” The book “His Needs, Her Needs” allows males and females to realize that their needs are completely different; the ability to satisfy each other’s needs is the most important factor in determining a successful marriage. Another factor to a successful marriage is to avoid hurting each other. “Love Busters” introduces habits that commonly damage a marriage, such as angry outbursts, selfish demands, disrespectful judgements, irritating habits, dishonesty, etc.

Marriage does not need to be the graveyard of love; through counselling, love can make a recovery. We frequently hear people who have been married for many years talk about marriage joylessly and with an air of resignation as if this is the only possible outcome of marriage. In fact, marriage need not be like this, if one knows how to properly cultivate and nurture it.

In recent years, we observe that many unhappy marriages lead to health problems. These have serious adverse repercussions, and it is therefore important to research and introduce this knowledge to other people, Translating Dr. Harley’s book “His Needs, Her Needs” is a first step, and we wish that Chinese readers can benefit by reading the book.

Traditional marriages are motivated by the need to continue the family lineage; whether the man and woman know each other is unimportant and so are their needs. In the past, each party generally meets each other just once before their marriage. It was like a lucky draw – some are lucky while others are unlucky. Men can remarry to correct an imperfection; women have to accept their fate, pin their hopes on their children, and use parental love as a substitute for their husband’s love. This unfair treatment creates much stress for the women, which in turn is a reason for the unpleasant relationship with their mothers-in-laws and the discord in the family. The hatred among members of the family is reflected in Chinese stories.

Nowadays, men and women are free to make acquaintances, and choose their partners. Hence, it is important to learn about friendship and marriage. What are the differences between men and women? What is the difference between love and sex? The founder of the study of human wisdom, Dr. Rudolf Steiner, provides some path-breaking clues on these questions (although his exposition is not as detailed as those in other fields such as education, agriculture, medicine, and arts because social norms precluded him from elaborating during his time). One of his students, Wolfgang Gadeke, was a German marriage counsellor and pastor. Between 1985 to 1988, he was interviewed by Wolfgang Weirauel, the chief editor of the magazine Ilensbuiger Ltefte. During these interviews, Wolfgang Gadeke used a spiritual perspective to look at men and women, and the issue of friendship and marriage. There was great interest, and the resulting book has been reprinted five times, and still remains a best-seller. The English edition was published in 1998 by London’s Temple Lodge Publishing (51 Queen Carloine St, London, W6 9QL).

Below is a summary by Wolfgang Gadeke about Dr. Steiner’s views:

Men and women are different both in terms of physical and mental attributes. Men’s reproductive system is active and alive; men can feel the activities of the millions of sperms, and how they influence and cause pressure on their consciousness. Women cannot feel the fertilization of their eggs. Their desires come from their emotions, and they will observe theirmate’s look, expression, and voice (i.e., their soul). In contrast, men’s attend only to the physical attributes of the female’s body.

Besides a physical body, humans also have an etheric body (life body), the astral-body (the emotional body), and the ego body. There are also other differences between men and women. Men generally have greater physical strength and better developed muscles than women. In terms of the etheric body, women are stronger than men, and this is apparent even within the womb: although male fetuses are bigger than female ones by a ratio of 1.3 to 1, this ratio drops to 1.06 at the time of birth, and 1.0 by age 21. The mortality rate of male infants is over 10% higher than that of female infants. About 30% more males than females have adolescent problems. Females outlive males by about 7 years, and old folks home have a predominance of females. The astral bodies of women are also stronger than that of men; in terms of emotional expressions, women find it easier to express their inner feelings and have richer emotions. In terms of feelings towards the opposite gender, females generally experience a sense of emptiness when they are unable to meet their lover. Males have stronger self-egos than females. They are also able to be more objective observers of events than females (who tend to be more opinionated).

Men tend to have stronger ego consciousness than women. A large part of women’s lives revolves around the etheric body and the astral body, while much of men’s lives centre on their physical body and ego body.

In terms of thought processes, men tend to use a ‘either this or that’ thinking mode, similar to computers which are also designed to process things in terms of ‘yes’ or ‘no’. In contrast, women use a “both or and” thinking mode. Thus, men use an ‘exclusive’ mode of thinking, while women use an ‘inclusive’ mode of thinking; men use first principles to make decisions, while women use feelings and intuition to do so. Take the example of purchasing a pair of shoes. Women have a general idea of what kind of shoes they want and then visit several shops to look for the right pair. They may very well return to and buy from the first shop they had visited, and then exchange for a new pair a few days later. On the other hand, when buying a pair of shoes, men generally base their decisions on price and utility, and are not particular about the color or height of the heels, etc. One observation is that the majority of shoppers who return goods after Christmas are women.

In selecting their life-long partners, men and women find someone whom they can communicate at the emotional and spiritual levels. In particular, due consideration should be given to the fact that men and women generally fully develop their self-egos when they are about twenty-eight years old. If they marry before this age, there is a tendency for difficulties in their marriages to emerge by the time they are twenty-eight years old. In general, it is the women who bring up these difficulties. Women who marry too early tend to look upon their husbands as the focus of all activities and may think that they cannot survive without their husbands. However, when their egos mature, they will oppose this restriction on their egos and strongly seek their freedom by looking for jobs or going for higher education, etc.

On the other hand, if a strong friendship is not first developed, it may be difficult to avoid the damage caused by sex. Sex is a paradox: when two people are in love, they think that physical contact will enhance intimacy. In actual fact, it may have a reverse effect in that it may lead to a greater separation spiritually. A characteristic of physical contact is that only physical sensations can be felt but not other feelings or sensations felt by the other party. Hence, those who consider lust to be love can generally maintain a relationship for only two years; little wonder that it has been said that “marriage is the graveyard of love”. Gadeke suggests that when young people make friends, they deliberately keep a physical distance and correspond by mail. Even the telephone is not an ideal tool compared to love letters, which can uniquely facilitate the expression of one’s inner feelings. He is especially opposed to the idea of cohabitation among young couples. According to him, cohabitation and marriage leads to the same outcome in that it may inhibit one’s individual characteristic from developing. Sexual relationship between members is appropriate within the context of a long-lasting marriage. When the relationship is temporary in nature, harm may be done to the spiritual and emotional communication between the two parties. When selecting marriage partners, both parties must have the ability to live independently. The best decision is made only when it is made freely without conditions and demands. Steiner suggests that for present day marriages, it is best to avoid the pull of past karmic relationships, and it is advisable not to select family members and spouses from one’s past lives as our current marriage partners. Higher-order spiritual choices can have a big impact on the earth and the spiritual world.

Perhaps, this is the happy marriage in the golden era.

Children brought up in the Television Age

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

If Mencius was born in the later half of this century in China, he is likely to have grown up in front of the television. His mother would also not have immediately realized the long-term adverse effects of the television and may not have kept him away from it. Little Mencius would have therefore lost the opportunity to experience childhood games, sports, stories, language learning and the curiosity of a normal child, and his brain may have been underdeveloped. When he grows up, he may not have depth of observation and contemplation, nor possess high moral fibre and a sense of responsibility. He may then not have made a significant impact on the Chinese culture.

If the television had appeared 500 years earlier in Europe, we would not have the opportunity today to listen to the music of Mozart, Beethoven, or recent music prodigies, nor appreciate the art and inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci. If the television had appeared very early in Chinese civilization, Li Bai and Du Pu might not have written poetry, there might not be many literary works from China, and there might not even be a Chinese culture.

If you think that the above scenarios are exaggerations, let us look at the American culture, education, morality and society forty years after television had become popular in America. In America, preschool kids watch an average of 30 hours of television every week. Adults watch an average of four hours of television; this means that apart from sleep, work and schooling, watching television takes up the bulk of an adult’s time. Before a child goes to school, he/she would have watched between 5000 to 8000 hours of television; by the time he/she goes to high school, the amount of time spent watching television would have exceeded the time spent in school. What is the influence of television on children, adolescents, and adults? According to a report by the US education department, 70 million young adults are functionally illiterate. Many American companies have found that many high school graduates cannot read, count, or think. A large company, Motorola Inc, discovered that among the nation’s job applicants, 80% did not pass grade 7 English and Grade 5 mathematics. In another report, it was documented that among 17-year-olds, only 7% have the necessary background to enter the science faculty at the universities. In an international mathematics and science competition, thirteen-year-old Americans scored the lowest among twelve countries.

Since the 1960s, mathematics teachers in America have found that the learning ability of students have deteriorated year by year, and national test scores have fallen yearly too. Scientists doing most advanced research lament that it is not easy to find successors. Native students form the minority among graduate students studying in America. A professor with over 30 years of research experience used to return to his alma mata yearly between 1963 to 1973 to conduct annual lectures for undergraduate students. He found no major difference in students’ responses every year until 1973, when he discovered a significant decrease in students’ comprehension ability. The students were given different teaching material and no longer solved physics problems; instead, they watched commercial television programmes and made factory visits. When asked for the rationale behind these changes in teaching approach, the professor replied, “Since students can no longer handle the traditional physics curriculum, we have to dilute the curriculum and use television programmes and factory visits as teaching materials.”

Many people blame the failure of the American education system on the school and the family, but these are not the ultimate reasons. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Learning conducted a survey in 1991 among 7 thousand kindergarten teachers to find out more about the following attributes of kindergarten children: their health, ability to cope, emotional maturity, language, knowledge, and moral views. Their results showed that 35% of kids did not possess the prerequisites to attend kindergarten. These kids came from cities and towns of various sizes, and different economic conditions, cultural background, etc. These 5-year-old kids did not know their full names and address and were unable to differentiate colors or use the pencil. They had limited spoken skills, short attention spans, and no confidence in expressing themselves. They were not used to taking instructions, and did not know how to take turns to share a table and draw etc. These children were of normal intelligence but lacked experiences in life.

The average weight of a newborn child’s brain is about 330 grams, about a quarter the weight of an adult’s brain. The child’s brain will have grown three times by the age of two and will be about 90% of the size of an adult’s brain by the time he/she is seven years of age. Every experiment conducted on animals has shown that the brain’s development is dependent on the experiences it receives. Professor Marian Diamond of the University of California, Berkeley used two groups of mice as subjects, and found that the brains of one group of mice which had lived in an enhanced environment (bigger cage, greater variety of toys and playmates) were 11% larger than that of another group of mice that had lived in an impoverished environment. If another group of mice were placed in the enhanced environment but were only allowed to watch and not participate in the activities of mice in the enhanced environment, their brain sizes were not different from that of the mice in the impoverished environment. Mice living in the wild had the richest environment and had the best developed brains.

Children’s brains receive fewer stimulation when they passively watch television programmes rather than actively participate in activities. Watching television itself numbs the nerves and senses. Just like taking drugs, one can get addicted to watching television. When watching television, the brain generates Alpha waves, which are slower than the Beta waves. In particular, only the right brain is involved in processing the images and the emotional contents; the left brain, which performs the function of thinking and analysis, is dormant. Little wonder that advertising agents exploit this weakness to promote their products, since they do not need to use much logic and only need vivid imagery and short phrases to persuade the viewers. Both children and adults may be led to purchase these products, as if hypnotized. Because of advertisements, Americans like to take high sugar, and high cholesterol junk food; as a result, obesity is a common ailment. The images on television flash at the rate of 60 to 80 times per second, far exceeding the speed of our sight which can sense up to 20 times per second. At the same time, because these light radiations are direct rays (not reflected rays which our eyes are accustomed to), our eyeballs will naturally stop responding. Since focusing relies on the movement of the eyeballs, watching television definitely causes damage to the vision. Besides the eyes, other sensory organs functions may also decline. It has been reported that after watching several minutes of television, the responses of the brain are similar to that of people who have been in an environment where their senses have been deprived of stimulation for 96 hours. In Germany, some hospitals have begun to have departments that treat children who have been harmed by watching television. Many parents may also not be aware that the television is related to many of the ailments faced by their children: restless sleep, indigestion, irregular heartbeat, bad temper, exhaustion, lack of interest in work and play, drug abuse, drinking liquor, lack of compassion, wanton sex, learning difficulties, slow limb movement, poor concentration, etc. In Europe, some parents have recognized this problem and have either slowly restricted the television to their children, or immediately banned the television. Observation of the television watching habits of family members is an important first step.

The Waldorf educational system started by Dr. Steiner has always advocated that children not watch television. Dr. Steiner suggests that children may be permitted to watch selected television programmes only after the age of fourteen. Watching television greatly reduces children’s imagination, because children rely on playing imaginative games and listening to stories to develop their imagination. At the same time, children’s physical activities will help promote their determination; should they lack such activities, they may grow up as adolescents without a sense of purpose in life and without having much perseverance in the things they do.

The popularity of television in Taiwan has trailed America by twenty years, and the associated problems will also appear later. However, given awareness of these problems, it is not too late for parents and teachers to take remedial actions.

Release … Recovery … Restore

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Joy, anger, sadness and happiness, are communication tools used to express our emotions. Children can express a wide range of emotions within few minutes; tears, laughter can be expressed instantaneously. The emotions flow naturally. They do not repress their feelings. Children do not harbour grievances or suffer from depression. They forget their unhappiness after a good cry.

In the process of growing up, children are taught to suppress their emotions. They should not cry or throw tantrums. Negative emotions are to be controlled. In the long run, suppressed emotions slowly lead to emotional numbness – they can no longer cry or laugh. Adults can hold their grievances, anger, and sadness for years. Long term suppression of emotions does not lead to happiness, they even cause physical ailments. At that time, any small incident can trigger off a huge explosion of rage or despair.

In general, when a person loses his zest for life, joy and intuition, his life becomes a life imprisonment. He lives mechanically like a zombie. Emotional numbness results from controlling one’s breathing. The extent of emotional numbness can be determined from a person’s voice and the depth of his breathing.

Hence, to recover life’s zest and joy, it is necessary to first defrost the emotions. Deep breathing is one method. Using the mouths or nose, inhale deeply all the way to the abdomen, then exhale. It is all right to breathe out with sound, regardless of what it may sound like. To release pent-up grief, take a deep breath while softly touching the heart with a finger. If contact is made with the emotion associated with this grief, release it. Repressed emotions tend to be centred in the area below the rib cage and above the navel.

The process of releasing repressed emotions require time and space. Warn the people around you so that they will not be surprised. When the space and time are appropriate, take a deep breath. It is fine to use your vocal chords to release these emotions, whether through crying, shouting, roaring, or saying whatever words that need to be said. After the emotional release, take a saltwater bath (add one or two pounds of salt to the bathtub) or a vinegar bath (add a cup of apple cider vinegar to the bathtub); soak for twenty minutes.

Another way to release pent-up emotions, is to take an empty jar or glass, fill one-third or half of it with salt (coarse or fine), and fill up with water. Place the jar on the area between the heart and the navel, with the left hand holding the bottom of the jar, and the right hand covering it. Visualise all the unhappy emotions being absorbed by the salt water. After ten to twenty minutes, pour the salt water into the toilet. If the repressed emotions are centred below the navel, stand in a basin of salt water. Likewise, visualise the repressed emotions being sucked from the upper abdomen to the legs, and then through the sole of the feet. Finally, utter the word ‘OM’ to regulate one’s mood.

Besides releasing the emotions that have been repressed for many years, it is important to learn to open up one’s feelings; to acknowledge when one is angry, sad or afraid, and not to pretend that everything is okay. In addition, let the other party (if they are the cause) know how you feel. When we interact with each other (and in particular, with our spouses or relatives), it is important to communicate honestly in order to foster closer relationship. Hypocrisy will only increase the distance between each other.

If it is not possible to express one’s feelings at that time, then it is necessary to release these feelings through exercise or breathing, or visualising breathing in sky-blue light to every cell in one’s entire body; as a result, the body will feel relaxed and at ease.

The recovery of our emotional health and sensitivity is an important aspect of our physical and mental health. It is also an important step towards the recovery of our human nature, and the promotion of a harmonious caring society.

A Happy Childhood, A Healthy Adulthood A Discussion on the Holistic Education for Children Relating to the Body, Mind, and Spirit

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Man proclaims himself to be the “Master of all Creatures”. The primary difference between man and animal lies in their spirituality. In the last 200 years though, materialism has eroded man’s spirituality and his awareness of it. In fact, some people are no different from animals. The obvious areas that have become victims of materialism include the fields of education, medicine, and farming.

In every crisis, a savior will appear. In education, one such person was Dr Rudolf Steiner, the founder of the Waldorf school, which has establishments in 36 countries. Dr Steiner was born in Austria in 1861 and died in 1925. He was a scientist, a spiritualist who made important directions in the fields of education, farming, medicine, architecture, literature, arts, education for the handicapped, philosophy, Buddhism, and Christianity. He created Anthroposophy, the study of human spiritual wisdom, which presently has schools and branches throughout the world.

In education, Dr Steiner, through his observation of the needs of a person as he progressed in life, suggested ways to aid and satisfy the needs of a student in the classroom. Man is a thinking person with feelings and aspirations. Hence, education must be the integration of a man’s head, heart, and hands.

Over 1000 Waldorf schools have been established since 1919. In the past 80 years, Dr Steiner’s educational principles have been widely recommended by educational systems, parents, teachers, and students in the west. Graduates from the Waldorf programmes have great success in enrolling into the best universities. In 1981, statistics by the German Education Department showed that the passing rates of students in Waldorf schools taking the national ARBITUR examinations were three times that of those from public schools; the passing rate rose to six times for students who completed the 12 years of the Waldorf programme. The American educationist, Joseph Chilton Pearce (author of ‘Magical Child’ and ‘Crack in the Cosmic Egg’) made the following commentary on the Waldorf programme: “This educational system is timely and most ideal for children and society. Amidst the current crisis in the educational system, Steiner’s method is extremely necessary.”

Dr Steiner’s view on education is that educators should put in their utmost effort to enable a person to find meaning and direction in his life. Hence, the system has three core fences: imagination, sense of truth, and sense of responsibility. Dr Steiner also believed that the real purpose of education is to enable students to realize the true freedom. This is made possible by developing their power of observation and their ability to decide. He observed that from birth to adulthood, man has to pass through three phases of education, each of which lasts about 7 years.

The first stage is from birth till the time the children shed their baby teeth. The key learning mode here is through imitation. During this period, it is important to provide a warm and conducive environment. Parents and those interacting with the children need to set personal examples, as teaching by example is more important than verbal instruction at this stage. Children need to feel the beauty and virtues in their experiences; the ancient Chinese story of Mencius’ mother is an illustration of the importance of the environment. During this time, physically, the child grows rapidly, and all the body’s resources are expanded towards nurturing a healthy bodily system. Hence, we cannot prematurely bring forward children’s learning of language and mathematics as this will deplete their resources for the rest of their lives, resulting in premature aging. History is repleted with examples of geniuses dying young. There have been instances of children who entered Harvard at 16 but died by 40 because their bodies started deteriorating after 35. Also, if children encounter too much suffering and pain when young, they will also face more illnesses in adulthood.

The second stage starts from age seven to adolescence. At this time, the child needs to look up to authority as role model. Hence, teachers play an important role here; for they can inculcate morality and respect in children with the help of fairy tales, fables, history, and stories of heroes. At the same time, this period provides opportunities for children to co-ordinate their limbs with their mind and feelings, and to learn arithmetic. Lessons for children of this age must start from an overall perspective and relate to things around them. For example, geography starts from one’s room, progressing to the house, the city, the country, and finally the world. Science begins with the children’s own creative drawings. During the first eight years of education, children are not given report cards but are provided with feedback based on their teachers’ observations of their growing-up process. One teacher is used throughout the entire eight years, with the exception of language and music lessons. In this way, the teacher can have a very thorough understanding of the children, and develop a relationship built from trust.

The third stage begins from adolescence to the time when the children turn 21 years of age. This is the time when the individual’s decision-making abilities are developed, when the external world is investigated, and when the realities about oneself and one’s values are explored.

In summary, children’s needs are – a moral world in the first stage, a beautiful world in the second stage, and a world with realities and truths in the third stage. Dr Steiner emphasized the need to respect the unique features of every child because the child is not a blank sheet of paper. The child’s talents can be detected from the traits of the mother, and his interests from those of the father. These observations can help children develop ambitions that they can aspire for and attain with ease.

The Waldorf system and thoughts, with its headquarters in Switzerland, have been established in Japan and India, where instructional courses are held for teachers in other major countries. Along the east and west coast of USA there are institutes and universities providing training for teachers. The address of the Rudolf Steiner College in North California is: Rudolf Steiner College, 9200 Fair Oaks Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628; telephone: (916) 961 8731. You can choose to be healthy

Chiu-Nan Lai, PH.D

Health is a choice we make. Indeed, factors that affect our personal health also influence the health of the earth. Yet, why do so many people select lifestyles that result in cancer, heart attacks, diabetes, arthritis; the death of 20 million people from starvation annually; the destruction of one acre of natural forest every second; and the extraction of 1000 plants species every year. We have forgotten that we co-exist with 30 million species of plants and animals, nor can we distinguish between fact and advertisements.

To select health, we must make adjustments in our lives, and be willing to choose from only four species of food: vegetables, fruits, grains and beans. This is also the recommendation made in 1991 by doctors from the Ethical Medicine Group. We need to use fewer plastic bags, bring our own carriers or cloth bags for grocery shopping, and frequently be close to nature. For every new vegetarian, one acre of forest will be protected.

When I was speaking in Singapore and Sarawak in October 1994, I found out that the incidence of cancer was ten times higher in Singapore than Sarawak and the incidence of heart attacks was about six times more. Why? Singapore is a city and depends on food imports that are largely processed. Singaporeans tend to eat more meat including seafood. Chicken rice is also one of Singaporeans’ favorite local food. Yet cancer patients should avoid eating chicken as it will cause cancer cells to grow rapidly. In addition, imported vegetables tend to have agricultural chemicals.

In contrast, Malaysia has a higher proportion of people living a rural lifestyle, who grow their own fruits and vegetables in their backyards. They also eat less meat.

The questions fielded by 20,000 Singaporeans who attended my talks revolved around illnesses, particularly those which doctors claim to be incurable. Malaysians had fewer such questions.

Water quality in the two countries also differs. In East Malaysia, the water is clear as its natural state is unspoilt. The local consumes wild vegetables and fruits found in the forest. Very clearly, this shows the importance of nature to our health. The price of city living is too high. The people in Sarawak have a more peaceful disposition. They are contented and therefore more healthy. On the contrary, Singaporeans emphasize a high efficiency levels, which create stress in their well-being.

We must reconsider our priorities and choose wisely.

Taking Care Of Your Kidney

Chiu-Nan Lai, PH.D

The kidney is one of the most important organs. It is responsible for the body’s metabolism, toxin elimination, excretion, and maintenance of the balance of bodily fluids. All bodily fluids pass through the kidney 20 times an hour (the metabolic wastes transported by the blood are excreted as urine). The maladjustment of the kidney can trigger off lumbodorsal aching, edema, high blood pressure, urethritis, exhaustion, insomnia, hair loss, slow response, depression, fear, the presence of urotoxin in the blood and even mental derangement.

The kidney depends on 2,000,000 Nephrons to filter off the pollutants in blood. Everything that enters the body passes through the kidney. These include food, drinks, foreign particles, and toxins. The greater the quantity of the pollutants, the heavier the workload on the kidney. The first symptoms of an overworked kidney are kidney blocking and inflammation. Long-term effects are impure blood, calculus, and hypofunction. More serious conditions may be life-threatening, and dialysis will be required.

Prevention is better than cure. The best we can do is to avoid harming our kidney. Below are a number of factors which contribute to kidney maladjustment:

  1. Over-consumption of animal food such as meat, eggs, etc. High protein foods cause the formation of uric acid which strains the kidney.
  2. Over-exhaustion and lack of relaxation.
  3. Consumption of Western medicine, such as Penicillin.
  4. Pollution of the water, air, land, and sound.
  5. Over-consumption of alcoholic beverages, coffee, aerated and soft drinks.
  6. Cold and humid weather.
  7. Inadequate consumption of water.

To protect your kidneys, shun the above factors from your daily life. Eat more organic vegetarian food, have enough rest, drink Reverse Osmosis water. Choose a day every week where you consume only fruits and water for the whole day. Refrain from exposing your lumbo to the cold in winter, massage the lumbodorsal, and practice “Waidangong” or Qigong to fortify your kidneys.

Below is a 3-day kidney food-therapy originated from Turkey:

Crush a cup of watermelon seeds and mix it with 12 cups of water which has been boiled for 3 minutes. Leave 4 cups of mixture at room temperature, put the remaining 8 cups in the fridge. Drink 1/3 of the mixture every hour. For 3 days, follow the following diet programme:

Breakfast – watermelon
Lunch – yogurt, whole-meal bread/ rice and uncooked vegetables.
Dinner – steamed pears or apple sauce mixed with yogurt and soya milk.

After 3 days, continue to consume the watermelon seed drink and watermelon for breakfast for 14 days. After that, meals should be based on organic vegetables and fruits for best results.

Below is a folk prescription for kidney food therapy:

  1. For kidney failure resulting in one’s inability to excrete urine – drink boiled parsley roots in water.
  2. For calculus
  • Eat a dozen lemons a day for 5 days.
  • Boil a spoonful of desiccated (taraxacum?) root with 4 cups of apple juice for 10 minutes.
  • Drink 3 times a day, 2/3 cup each.

For hypofunction, replenish Magnesium intake. Dark green leaves, grains, beans and peas are all rich in Magnesium.

Saving The Environment Begins With A Handkerchief

Chiu-Nan Lai, PH.D

When I was young, I used to carry a handkerchief in my pocket for wiping perspiration and my hands. Since attending high school in the States, tissues began to replace my handkerchief. Only those who love outdoor activities or sportsman use handkerchiefs.

Few years ago, an Australian doctor mentioned that Dioxane, a very toxic chemical, is produced when manufacturing and bleaching paper. This chemical has heavily damaged the earth and created many health problems. Dioxane can cause injuries to the central nervous system, cause the death of liver and kidney, damage the skin and lungs, and cause cancer. This doctor produced her handkerchief to demonstrate a way of protecting the environment. She explained that using the handkerchief to wipe the nose is hygienic as bacteria will not survive once the cloth is dried. A handkerchief could be used many times before being washed.

After learning this, I started to use the handkerchief again; the big squarish kind that is normally used for mountaineering. Initially I was not used to it, but it soon became a habit. I have not bought tissues for the past few years and do not feel the need for it. It is indeed very wasteful and environmentally unhealthy to have tissues being used so widely. This little handkerchief incident makes one realize that environmental protection and pollution is only a matter of changing habits. If we only spend a little more time to reflect on the consequences of our daily habits and choose a way that treats the environment with care, we could improve the environment we live in and avoid future calamities.

Food shortage is one of the many calamities we may face. Those living in industrialized countries could hardly imagine the pressure created from the scarcity of the earth’s resources such as water and land when agricultural nations enter into industrialization. In China particularly, when there is a population of 1.2 billion, when the nation begins to drive cars, consume meat and eggs, drink beer, the effect on the earth is nothing less than a catastrophe.

In 1988, Lester Brown from the Worldwatch Institute observed that when the densely populated agricultural countries progress towards industrialization, they can no longer be self-sufficient in producing food and have to rely on imports. This is due to the sacrifice of cropland for industries and roads. As their economy develop, the nation’s diet increases in variety; more will consume eggs and poultry products, ice cream, beer, etc. Taiwan, Japan and Vietnam are amongst the most densely populated countries and have developed into industrialized nations over the past thirty years. Statistics in 1994 showed that 72% of Japan’s food consumption were imported, Vietnam, 62% and Taiwan, 76%. When China becomes fully developed, food shortage could be predicted. Brown wrote an article “Who will feed China?” in 1994. Looking at the rate of food consumption in China, there is not one country which could satisfy its needs. For the period 1993 to 1994, China exported 8 million tons of grains. However, by 1994/1995, it imported 1.46 million tons of grains. In actual fact, its grain insufficiency was more than reported. However, to stabilize the increasing price of grains, the China government released its grain reserves. Projecting its demand, China would have to import 3 to 4 billion tons of grains by the year 2030; twice the amount of today’s total world export. Currently, there are ten developing countries relying on food import. Using the current rate of population increase, food import in 2030 will be the total of the world’s export in 1994. In addition, more countries such as India, Iran, Pakistan, Mexico are also increasing their reliance on import. We are facing a serious food shortage.

The world’s population of grain is hampered by the scarcity of irrigated agricultural land. The increase in the world’s population leads to an increased demand for food which will widen the gap between supply and demand. There are two solutions to this problem. We could either limit population growth or advocate environment protection via our diet, i.e., consuming grains and legumes as staple food together with greens and fruits. The reason for China’s conversion from an exporting to an importing nation is that with its increase in per capita income and with affluence, there is more meat consumption. Meat consumption increased from 8kg per person in 1973 to 32kg per person in 1994. Its total consumption is more than that in the United States. Besides, the government of China has encouraged increased consumption of eggs from the current 100 per head to 200 per head by the year 2000. This is very close to the 235 eggs per head in America. The target of rearing 13 billion chickens and the demand for 24 billion tons of grains is equivalent to Canada’s current total annual export.

In addition, beer consumption has increased tremendously. If everyone in China consumes a bottle of beer, 370 thousand tons of grains will be required. Production volume was 1 billion liters in 1981 and this has increased thirteen folds by 1994. China’s beer consumption is now more than that of Germany and second only to America. When we realize that our daily habit can either result in calamity or safety, we will choose to use the handkerchief instead of tissues, drink water instead of beer, take grains, vegetables, and fruits instead of meat, poultry, and dairy products. Should we create an Earth with enough food for each and every one, or one where only some has plenty to eat while others die of hunger?

The choice is ours. It begins with the use of a handkerchief, from a mouthful of rice, or a glass of water.

What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Natural (undistilled) Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) can really be called one of nature’s most perfect foods* (*The best is organic, raw, unfiltered, unpasteurised Apple Cider Vinegar available in Health Stores.) ACV is made from freshly crushed organic apples and then allowed to mature. Natural ACV should be a rich brownish colour and if held to the light you might see a tiny formation of co-web like substances which we call the “mother”. The more matured the ACV, some “mother” will show in the bottom of the bottle. When you smell the natural ACV there should be a pungent odour and some are so natural and ripened they pucker your mouth.

Apples are powerful nutritional foods
They are a good source of potassium. Potassium is the mineral of youthfulness. It puts toxic poisons in solution so that they can be flushed out of the body. It is the “artery softener”, keeping the arteries of the body flexible and resilient. It is a fighter of dangerous bacterial and viruses. Potassium is the key mineral in the constellation of minerals and is important to the life of every living thing.

Deficiency in Potassium
Most humans are deficient in potassium. Millions living in today’s civilisation and eating the commercialised processed foods available have a potassium deficiency look. The skin and muscle tone is bad. The flesh does not cling firm on the body’s boneyframe work. Lines and wrinkles fill the face and neck and flabby skin hangs over the eyes. The longer the potassium deficiency continues, this prolapsing eyelid progresses. Most people attribute physical changes in the skin and muscle tone due to their age.

You must have potassium to build and maintain youthful ageless tissues. Potassium deficiency can cause premature aging and degeneration of body cells. The two great enemies of life are toxic poisons (found in food, air, water and soil) and nutritional deficiencies caused by improper diet and unhealthy foods.

Potassium deficiency can stunt growth
Mentally retarded children and adults suffer from potassium deficiency. Some experiments were conducted on mentally retarded children and senile people. After following the Bragg’s Healthy Lifestyle with healthy food rich in potassium and ACV cocktails (1 teaspoon ACV with 1 teaspoon honey), they went back to normal life.

Most senile people suffer from a clogged arterial system
The potassium goes into the clogged, caked arteries and cleans out the rust and dirt… just like vinegar water removes grime from window. Potassium can be called the detergent of the arteries. One of the functions of potassium is to keep tissues healthy, soft and pliable in man and animals.

Body signs of potassium deficiency

  • Aches and pains in the bones and muscles, especially in lower back.
  • Shooting pains when a person starts to straighten up after leaning over.
  • Dizziness upon straightening up after leaning up.
  • A dull morning headache upon arising.
  • The body feels heavy and it’s an effort to move rapidly.
  • The hair is dull, faded looking, lacks lustre and sheen.
  • The scalp is itchy and dandruff and premature hair-thinning or balding may occur.
  • The hair is unmanageable, mats up and often looks like straw. Sometimes it is extremely dry and other times it feels like it’s oil soaked.
  • The eyes itch and feel sore. Sometimes the eyelids are granulated and white matter collects at the corners. At other times the eyes are bloodshot and watery.
  • The eyes tire easily and will not focus as they should.
  • There is a lost of mental alertness, making decisions difficult to make. The memory seems to fail, making you forget names and places that should be at the tip of your tongue. You become very forgetful.
  • You tire physically and mentally with the slightes effort.
  • You become impatient and sometimes very irritable with your family and loved ones and even with your business and social acquaintances.
  • You feel nervous and have periods of depression and mental fog. You have difficulty getting things done, due to mental and muscle fatigue. The slightest effort sometimes leaves you shaking and trembling.
  • At times the hands and the feet get chilled and cold, even in warm weather.

Uses of ACV
ACV can be used by overweight people to reduce weight, by taking ACV plus a healthy vegetarian diet and exercise. It can also be used to combat underweight. The underweight person is usually deficient in powerful natural enzymes. ACV helps to normalise body weight up or down as needed.

ACV Body Purification
Add 1 teaspoon ACV to 6 ozs of tomato or fresh vegetable juice (carrots + greens) and drink between meals once or twice daily. ACV also aids in the elimination of toxic wastes from the organs.

ACV can relief headaches
In a small pan put 2 tablespoons of ACV and 1 cup distilled water. Bring mixture to boil. When fumes begin to rise, turn heat off, put a towel over your head and lean forward over fumes, taking ten deep breaths of the ACV and water mixture.

ACV for sunburns
Lightly pat the skin with ACV to relieve sting and burning and leave it on. This will give prompt relief. For all over sunburns, pour one to two cups of ACV in cool bath water, then enjoy the healing, soothing soak. After soak pat on straight ACV to needed areas, then pat on aloe vera gel and leave on overnight. For serious burns, consult your doctor.

Combating sore throat and laryngitis
To fight throat germs – ACV gargle mixture works miracles (1 tablespoon to 1/2 glass of cold/warm water). Three mouthfuls of the mixture is gargled each hour and then spit out. Do not swallow the gargled mixture. As the throat begins to feel better, extend gargling to once every three hours.

For normal people, use ACV gargle once or twice weekly to help remove toxins eliminated through the throat tissues. This gargle is also good during fasting.

ACV can also be used for the following:

  • For keeping the skin healthy
  • Skin blemishes and acne
  • Younger looking skin in five minutes with ACV facial
  • For itching scalp, dry hair, dandruff, thinning hair and baldness
  • Strengthening the heart
  • Low-fat meals cut heart disease risk
  • Muscle soreness and aching joints
  • Improving digestion
  • Fight kidney and bladder problems (for bedwetting)
  • Combating gallstones
  • Fighting arthritis
  • Combating mucus conditions
  • Combat constipation
  • To fight acid crystals which cause premature aging
  • Fight Muscle cramps, nosebleeds

Unexpected impact on health…

Chiu-Nan Lai, PhD

In November of 2018 we invited Gisela Hoffman to give a talk on how our ancestors influence our health. Gisela is the daughter of Dr. Hanna Kroeger, who was a renowned doctor in natural healing and herbs.

Citing scientific research on epigenetics and using knowledge of homeopathy and miasma, she spoke in detail about how our ancestors (within five generations) influence our physical, emotional, spiritual, astral, and causal bodies, etc.

Our parents have the most influence on these bodies, and each generation above influences one fewer body.  Our great great grand paternal and maternal grandparents influence only our physical and emotional bodies. For example, if any ancestor within these five generations had tuberculosis, the descendants may have the following ailments: 1.weak lung, 2. bunion, digital myxoid cyst or hammer toe, 3. skin cancer, 4. macular degeneration, and 5. curved spine.

There was a little girl who was adopted by her maternal grandmother because her mother was a drug addict and could not take care of her. The child’s temper became very bad, and she was full of anger. After putting chocolate (V) on the photo, she explicitly told her grandfather: you are still my maternal grandfather and grandmother, my uncle and aunt will not become my brother and sister. But her anger subsided.

It is common in Chinese society to give their young children, in particular girls, to their brothers and sisters. Alternatively, they are raised by their grandmothers. Furthermore, the tradition of child bride is also unique to China. These have profound effects on future generations.

People living in poverty would give away or sell their children. During the war in China more than 100 years ago, many people had to give away their children because they could not support them.  My maternal grandmother was born in that era. There were many children in her family and because there was no way to raise them, some children had to be given away or sold. My maternal grandmother only knew her name and that her hometown was in Zhenjiang; she knew nothing else about her background.

When I learned this method, I immediately wrote Chocolate (V) 1M on a piece of paper, put it on my photo and placed it under natural light in the room for three days. Unexpectedly, my energy greatly improved the moment I did this.

Later, I recalled that my father had lost his mother from an early age, so he was also cut off from the energy of his mother’s womb. I shared this method to a person who had been adopted.  After she did it her mind immediately became clear, and her heart became lighter.

Another person was also raised by her grandmother. Her spirit and mood greatly improved. She sings every day, and everyone around her can see this improvement.

We also learned that if the words “toxic pollution” are written on a piece of paper, adding (V) at the end of these words would transform it to an antidote. (V) stands for Vibropathic. Simply put, it is the material’s subtle energy. This is the principle of homeopathy.  Subtle energies of toxic pollutants that injure people become the antidote when (V) is added after the pollutant.. Since young, we have been exposed to many toxins. The place where we used to live had people coming to spray DDT every week. Then, there were various chemical agents in the university laboratory, the pesticide, methyl bromide, that killed white ants in my neighbor ’s house when we lived in California, plus pesticides in the air, car exhaust, and pollution, etc. I write DDT (V) on my photo, and then I signed off many names, and wrote methyl bromide (V) along with the names of many chemical agents plus (V).

Once, I over-detoxified and woke up in the middle of the night with hives all over my body. I got up and soaked my feet with hot water, and moved water back and forth with water structuring adaptor unit. After doing so for 30 minutes, the hives disappeared.

The following is a list of pollutants we may come into contact with and the associated antidote:

  1. Mercury (tooth filling and exhaust from burning coal) Mercviva (V).
  2. Glysophate (V) herbicide is a very common pollutant because genetically-modified crops are sprayed with this.
  3. Formaldehyde (V) is often contacted in buildings.
  4. Arsenic (V) is a pesticide commonly used in the past, and the content of this pesticide in American rice exceeds the maximum residue limit.
  5. Dioxin (V) is a pollutant present in the atmosphere, and is also a herbicide.
  6. Fluoride (V) is a pollutant in water, and is also present in toothpaste.
  7. Chlorine (V) is a pollutant present in water.
  8. Exhaust gas from burning coal (V).
  9. Carbonic acid (V) is a pollutant produced in the electronics industry.

In this course, I had the opportunity to share and try out on classmates the two newest methods to protect and boost energy. These two methods can be used individually or together for better results.

The first one is to draw spirals, and in the middle of these spirals, write down  “all of a person’s light chakras, organs, body parts and acupuncture points, as well as Huatuo spinal reflex points, etc. You can also write down the source of the negative energy that harms humans and all lives, along with the contact number, or that person’s phone, computer, mobile phone, electrical appliances, electricity meter, cell phone tower, home, school, office, name and address of a store/ restaurant, air/water in a particular city, etc. All the faucets in the house can also be included as these also leak energy.

I drew a picture with 12 spirals (see link) for everyone ’s convenience (note: when drawing the spirals, the direction is clockwise). I discovered the benefits of these drawn spirals the following way. I read the reprint of an old book “The Secret of Life, Cosmic Rays and Radiation of Living Being” written by Russian scientist Georges Lakhovsky. He used the geranium flower that has been inoculated with virus to conduct the experiment. One month later, after the tumor has formed, he selected a plant to surround it with copper spirals. Two weeks later, the other plants died, but the one with copper spirals lived well and grew better than usual.

Three years later, the plant still grew very well. It is mentioned in the book that the copper spiral ring is also effective on humans and has the effect of healing and curing cancer.

After reading the book, a lady used a copper wire to make a belt. She also made a copper spiral for her handicapped cat and put it on its neck. The cat, which was not ambulatory earlier, could now walk.  The other person was injured, but quickly recovered.

I also made a copper spiral ring for myself and found that my energy increased a lot. After two days, I experimented by placing a photo in the spiral ring. The effect was the same. After another day, I tried by drawing a spiral and writing my name in the middle of it. My energy remained high. This was how I discovered spiral drawing.

A few days before the start of the course, I wanted to help everyone improve their energy during his or her journey. I drew a big spiral on the student name list. I measured everyone’s energy and found that it had increased by at least 10 times and even up to 100 times for some. The magnitude of energy increase was higher for those with lowest energy. One student reflected that she suddenly felt a huge increase in her energy during her journey. Another had chronic insomnia and could sleep when I drew the spiral.

After the event, I continued to experiment and found that generally, people’s chakras experience interference by electromagnetic waves, especially the chakra 16-inches above the crown of the head. If I wrote down all the chakras of a specific person within the spiral, these chakras would be protected.

The author’s theory is that the spiral resonates with the universe’s energy, creating a protective field.

There are now waves from outer space and man-made waves, many of which are harmful to life on Earth. The atmosphere has become very thin and can no longer block these harmful waves. Hence, the discovery of the spiral ring is very important.

My second method that I found very helpful in offering protection is the Spinning Great Joy disk (see Figure 2) offers very good protection. This is designed by me. Using both the spiral and this Spinning Great Joy disk together yields the greatest effect. Stick the spiral together with the disk, and place upright.

The following are my experiences with the spiral and the Spinning Great Joy disk.

Write the following in the spiral:

  1. All the chakras of the person. (See Figure 1)
  2. The person’s various bodily systems: cardiovascular system, brain, nervous and central nervous systems, immune system, endocrine system, respiratory system, digestive system, urinary system, excretory system, bones, etc.
  3. Mobile phone and land line telephone numbers. Add the Spinning Great Joy disk, and write “X optimum power” (see Figure 2)
  4. The person’s computer, X optimum power on the disk.
  5. All sources of electromagnetic waves and radio waves, X optimum power on the disk. For newly installed radio towers, X optimum power.
  6. Addresses of the home, school, office, shop, and public places.
  7. Separately write down the air and water of that particular city, X optimum power.
  8. Commonly used acupuncture points that need to be protected and elevated include: CV6 qihai, LI4 hegu, ST36 zhusanli, ST21 liangmen, K22 bulang, K1 yongquan, K27 yufu, GV20 baihui, GV4 mingmen, CV1 huiying, and the Huatuo spinal reflex points. The following depends on one’s needs: L4 waist 4 large intestines, T11 chest 11 small intestinal system, T5 chest 5 heart (left) pericardium (right), C3 head, 3 eyes, nose, ear.

Requires self-testing:

T7 chest 7 spleen (left) abdominal tube (right)

T8 chest 8 esophagus (left) pancreas (right)

T9 chest 9 stomach (left) liver (right)

Add disk X optimum power.

The Spinning Great Joy disk can be used alone and affixed to electrical appliances or drawings of these appliance. The film can also be attached to a drawn picture of the body’s various parts. Then multiply by the appropriate number.

Here is an example to illustrate its usage:

Two months ago, because the electromagnetic field(EMF) in the environment had strengthened, I felt pressure on my ears. I drew a picture of my ears and attached the  drawing of the disk, adding a suitable multiplier to it. The pressure immediately disappeared.

There was a fourth-generation family in our area that experienced great discomfort from electrical disturbances. I was preparing to enter their kitchen to sit down at their dining table and have afternoon tea. I found that the EMF was so strong that I could not step into the kitchen.

I first sat down in the living room. They told me that there were two refrigerators and electric meters in the kitchen. I drew these on a piece of paper and attached light disk that had been reinforced. Only then did the negative energy in the kitchen become positive. I checked the crown chakras of all the family members and found that the dowser was rotating in an anti-clockwise direction in all cases. I showed the grandmother how to draw a circle with a diameter of 2 inches (5 cm) to represent the crown chakra and affixed a x20 piece of light disk drawing. The crown chakra immediately balanced, and the dowser stopped moving.

The young children were often fussy when they got home, probably because they were influenced by the strong EMF.

People who live in big cities need X optimum power. Those who feel physically unwell or had injuries can draw  these injured  parts and then affix a light disk that has an appropriate multiplier or X optimum power.

In the process of designing the Spinning Great Joy disk, I found that the patterns and words are very important. Omitting one or two words or a circle in the diagram will change its efficacy. The placement upwards and downwards is also important, perhaps because our universe is a holographic projection.

The word “joy” in the Great Joy disk is a key word—joy, happiness, and rejoicing can heal the body and mind, from the self-consciousness body, astral body, etheric body, and physical body.

I introduced Legong (Joy Practice) many years ago. At that time, it was very popular in China. Many patients recovered their health from this practice. I once met a teacher who taught this practice. He learned this from a skilled old lady. He taught students to start from a false joy—as long as there is joy, real or false joy will still be effective. It can be practiced sitting, sleeping, walking; in other words, it can be practiced whether one is walking, at rest, sitting or lying. Practice for at least one hour daily. If you can’t arouse the joy within, find out the cause of your unhappiness. Do it if it can be remedied or fixed. If it can’t be changed, then change your mindset. The practice of using money to avert calamities is an example of changing one’s mindset.

In recent years, there have been many studies on the brain, and Dr. Steiner’s introduction to the four types of human bodies helps us better understand the principle of Legong (Joy Practice). A Canadian psychological counselor wrote about her journey to self-healing after being experiencing brain poisoning from paint exposure.

After working in a newly-painted office for three months, Annie Hopper became sensitive to all chemical compounds, including perfumes from people around her. Subsequently, her sensitivity worsened, and she reacted strongly to electromagnetic waves, radio waves, and many foods. She borrowed a tent from another person who was equally sensitive, and lived in it for a while. She later moved to Vancouver Island, and lived for a few months on a house boat without electricity and parked in the harbor. She looked for answers everywhere. Although many people had similar problems, doctors and experts knew of no treatment.

Intuitively, she felt that her brain was injured, and after looking at research on neuroplasticity, she found a way. If her brain can be healed, it can change her response to toxins and other electrical disturbances in the environment.

When the paint poisoning first injured her limbic brain, her brain nerves were stuck in the traumatic brain circuit, and the body was in a chronic emergency fight and flight response. In this situation, the body could not function naturally. She had to re-establish a new neural circuit to recover from the traumatic reaction. If the nervous system circuits were stimulated at the same time, they would be able to connect together. She had to cut off the brain’s connection to its initial response when it was first exposed to the paint (chemical agent).

When her body reacted to sensitive substances, she would deliberately change her thoughts to some  positive responses such as joy, gratitude and love.

Every day, she spent at least an hour to promote positive emotions within herself. Six months of training fully healed her from the traumatic reaction and the injured limbic brain.

She was able to return to her husband’s side. When other patients learned of her recovery experience, they asked her for help. She answered their calls for help, and gave lectures in different places. Generally, the patients improved significantly in a four-day course. The person who had loan her the tent had to wear a breathing mask for 5 years. A few days after the course ended, he did not need to wear a breathing mask when he went to the bank. There are many recovery stories on Annie’s website. www.retrainingthebrain.com

J.H. Bolte Taylor, another brain research expert who recovered from a stroke, mentioned in her book “My Stroke of Insight” how positive emotions allowed her right brain to help her injured left brain to recover. In his new book “Becoming Supernatural”, Dr. Joe Dispenza, a chiropractic doctor and research on spirituality, shows how positive emotions can harmonize the brainwaves recorded on an electroencephalogram and the heart electrocardiogram, and also greatly increase the energy field of the person.

Many examples of miraculous recovery often appear among his students. They experience not only health improvements, but improvements in their luck and encounters. When the sorrow, anger, anxiety and blame within us are transformed to joy, love, gratitude and tranquility, external difficulties will also be resolved.

Only brain waves that are alpha waves can change habitual negative thinking and emotion, and stop the traumatic brain circuitry.

Dr. Dispenza teaches how we can raise each chakra to use joy, gratitude, and love to clear habitual negative energy. He introduced eight chakras: starting from the root chakra upwards, experience the space and surroundings of each chakra, and then raise one’s emotions, joy, love, gratitude, etc.

  1. root chakra 2. Dantian chakra 3. Navel chakra 4. Heart chakra 5. Throat chakra 6. Pineal gland chakra (between the pituitary gland and throat chakras) 7. Pituitary gland chakra (third eye region) 8. KA chakra (ancient Egyptian term) 16 inches above the crown of the head.

A person who worked in the computer industry was injured by electromagnetic waves. After that, he could not go near any electrical appliances at all. As long as he was near any radio waves, his head would hurt. He lay on his bed at home. After being ill for two years, he came across Dispenza’s book, and learned to elevate each of his chakras. When he did it the first time, he felt that there was light within his head. The part of his brain that had been turned off was re-activated. After that, the duration of his headaches shortened, and after a few months, he no longer had headaches. He found a new job, and paid off his debts. He only had to work one and a half hours a day, and earned more than his previous 60-hour work week. As humans, we have many obstacles in this era, but our spirituality is also rapidly increasing. Hence, there are so many miraculous recovery methods appearing.

The healing methods that Gisela introduced are created based on the principles of miasma.

If our ancestors had tuberculosis, write down residues of tuberculosis (V)9M on a piece of paper. Place it on top of a photo of the descendants or signature. Place it for three days in a place indoor that can receive sunlight. If there is no sunlight, then place it under a lamp for 24 hours. If you are the person with this ailment, then write tuberculosis (V), and place it for 6 to 8 weeks. If our ancestors smoked, write down nicotine(V)9M and place it indoors on our photo in a sunny place for three days. If we are the one who smoke, write nicotine(V) and place it on the photo for 6 to 8 weeks.

She also provided the following prescriptions for reference:

* Adoption—Chocolate (V)1M or 9M

* Drug addiction—Cocaina (V)1M or 9M

* Psoriasis—Syphonium (V)9M

* Lyme disease─Syphonium (V) 9 m

* Heart disease─Circuit Flow 6X or 9m, Love (V) 100c, 9m

* Multiple sclerosis—Salmonella (V)9M, Typhoid (V)9M

* Retinal detachment—TB Residue (V)9M

Gisela believes that being adopted has a huge impact on oneself and his/her offsprings because the energy from the mother’s womb is cut off. This includes losing one’s mother, being adopted by a relative such as maternal/paternal grandmothers and aunts. If we are the one adopted, write chocolate(V) on a note, place it on a photo or sign on it, and put in a spot that receives natural light for five weeks and above. If it is our ancestors who have been adopted, add 1M or 9M (e.g., chocolate(V)1M or chocolate(V)9M) on the note, place it on a photo or sign on it, and put in a sunny spot for 3 days.

Harmful effects of radio waves, electromagnetic waves, dirty electricity, radio waves and The protection offered by sunlight and red light

Chiu-Nan Lai, PhD

In September of 2018, I listened to a seven-day summit on “EMF and health”. The host was Lloyd Burrell, who lives in France. He was injured from using his mobile phone and became extremely sensitive to electricity overnight. For two years, he sought medical treatment everywhere, but the doctors could not detect any problems. Lloyd felt uncomfortable whenever he used his mobile phone.  He explored different healing approaches and recovered his health. He no longer uses a mobile phone, and he can tolerate using the internet for a short time.  He devotes himself wholeheartedly to educating and assisting other people who have been unknowingly injured by electricity. His educational website is electricsense.com.

The summit invited 34 experts from the United States and Canada, including doctors, researchers, authors, journalists, building biologists, and experts on electricity. Some people engaged in research and education after being injured by electricity.

Lloyd Morgan, an electrical engineer, has 40 years of work experience. One day, he suddenly experienced cramps for 45 minutes and then passed out. He was in the intensive care unit for 14 days. The doctor removed a big tumor from his brain. He asked the doctor about the cause, and the doctor said “electromagnetic fields”. Lloyd was shocked to learn about this as he had never heard of it before. He loved working with electrical appliances since high school, and played with a wireless radio after school. He went back to all the places where he had worked and lived in order to measure the electromagnetic fields (EMF) in the environment. As a result, he found that in the bedroom that he had lived for 30 years, the electric clock at the top of his bed had a reading of 14 milligauss. The clock was just 4 to 6 inches away from his head. Generally, 2 milligauss will increase the risk of blood cancer and brain cancer. The safety range is below 0.1 milligauss.

Another victim was Jack Kruse, a neurosurgeon. The reason he delved into the relationship between EMF and health was that he had a sudden meniscus tear of his knee at the age of forty when he stood up to give a  lecture.  He went to the library to find the answer, and then realized that because he had been working under a fluorescent lamp (blue light) since he was 24 years old, his body’s biological clock was completely out of sync. In a natural environment, the blue light and the red light are present at the same time. Sufficient sunlight exposure is the primary factor in restoring and maintaining health. In the fifteen years since then, he has not missed one day of sunshine at sunrise. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the ultraviolet light is stronger, and it is best to avoid direct sunlight during this period.  He educated his members to expose their skin to the sun, and to hide their skin from electric lights at night. If he goes out at night, he always wears long-sleeved clothes, even on hot days. He believes that blue light is the main factor that interferes with health.

Nowadays, the light emitted by all energy-saving bulbs, mobile phones, TVs, computers, iPads and other screens are blue light waves. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) not only have mercury but they also emit radio waves, so it is best  to use incandescent light bulbs. The damage to health from using these energy saving devices is not worth it. The important thing is to turn off the lights when you are not using them and to minimize the amount of lights used in the house..

In terms of safety the next best choice is the Halogen incandescent light bulb.  It is an energy-saving bulb but not a blue light bulb. After sunset, blue light will suppress the secretion of melatonin. Melatonin helps with sleep and is also directly related to our immune function. If you work and live under electric lights during the day, you will lack exposure to red light. It is mentioned in the book “Let There Be Light” that red light nourishes the liver. People’s livers are generally not good now, and it may be related to this factor. If you have to sit in front of the computer for a long time, buy a yellow filter and place it in front of the screen, You can add a small red filter to balance the blue light.

In addition to regulating the biological clock, sunlight also creates Vitamin D3 and breaks down the sugar in the body into carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is also needed in the process.  This water is different from ordinary water. It protects the genetic materials inside the cell.  However, the electromagnetic environment damages mitochondria.  Cellular respiration and production of energy depend on mitochondria.  When damaged, low level of oxygen results.  Normal metabolism is converted from respiration to glycolysis or fermentation.  This can lead to cancer.  Sunlight also has a protective effect by separating the red blood cells that have become bound together due to EMF. Grounding also has the same effect. The qi from the earth is also light as the earth absorbs and reflects sunlight.

Experts summarized the harm caused by electricity:

  1. Attacks the nervous system, causing neurological and mental harm.
  2. Impairs the endocrine system.
  3. Causes oxidative damage and related ion damage. All chronic diseases are related to this (fat oxidation harms the liver and gall bladder).
  4. Invades genetic structures, causing split genes and injury to mitochondria.
  5. Causes cell death, leading to neurological decline and infertility.
  6. Reduces the fertility of men and women, increases the chance of miscarriage, and harms the genes in sperm.
  7. Raises calcium content in the cells, and excessively stimulates the calcium signaling. Taking magnesium in the form of sea mineral balances the effect of excess calcium stimulation. Only magnesium chloride from the ocean or ancient sea deposit can be retained in the body).
  8. Attacks the body via 15 different processes, leading to cancer.

Although we cannot do without electricity in our daily lives, people generally know very little about the connection between health and electricity.  Many doctors and electronic engineers are also ignorant of this. The electromagnetic and radio waves in the current environment are 1017 times that of 10 years ago; minimal contact is no longer possible. 24-hours exposure at this level is equivalent to exposure to 1,600 X-rays. Using a mobile phone for 30 minutes every day can increase the risk of brain cancer by 40%. Children, babies, and fetuses suffer the most. The key point is that short-term exposure alters genes and can injure the next generation.

Uninformed parents install monitors near their baby’s crib, as well as wireless devices to detect when their baby turns its body, and whether the diapers are wet or dry. Parents allow children to treat their mobile phones as toys, and even put them into their mouths. Children’s brains have more fluids and more easily absorb electromagnetic waves and microwaves.  An Israeli study found that cancer of the Parotid gland in the mouth has increased significantly, with children accounting for 20% of these cases.

If men put their mobile phones in the side pockets of their pants, the vitality of their sperm is greatly reduced. A person in charge of the sperm bank said that in the past, nine out of ten young people who came to sell their sperm met the required standard. Seven or eight years ago, only one out of ten people met the requirements. The vitality and health of sperm have declined globally. Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt pointed out that the most popular Internet and mobile phone frequency is 2.4GHz, which is the most effective frequency to prevent people and organisms from reproducing.

If men put their mobile phones in the back pockets of their pants, it will cause a large rise in rectal and colon cancer among young men. It is best for men to carry their mobile phones in a hand-held bag, and to not let the mobile phones contact their bodies. Furthermore, put the phone on airplane mode when it is not in use.

Building biology has always been aware of the harm that EMF and radio waves pose to the human body.  Oram Miller who is in charge of building biology education program in North America provides important information on his website www.createhealthyhomes.com .  There are four types of electromagnetic waves that we are most often in contact with. The first two types, EMF and electric field originate from alternating currents in the wires at home. The electrical current in North America and Taiwan are 60 Hertz, a frequency of 60 times per second,. In Europe, it is 50 Hertz.  EMF and electric field are to be measured separately. If the reading measured by the Gauss meter is very low, it does not mean that there is no problem. Generally, the wires from the walls and electrical appliances will have an electric field that extends 6 to 8 feet beyond the wires. Sleeping around these 60-wave-per-second electric field at night can interfere with sleep and body repair. Therefore, the electrical power in our sleeping area must be turned off at night. Use a flashlight instead. Many people’s sleep problems are related to this.

The third category is radio waves and microwaves, which can come from wireless devices (e.g., so-called smart TVs, smart washing machines, etc.), mobile phones, computers, routers, wireless phone bases, wireless phones, smart meters, meters for water and natural gas, mobile phone towers, TV/radio broadcast towers, airport radars, etc. There are also radio waves emitted by hundreds of thousands of satellites.

Because many electrical appliances have wireless capabilities and can connect with the electrical meter anytime, uplug applicances when not in use. Alternatively, install a toggle switch that can turn on or off the power supply; it only costs about $4. For instance, the wireless phone base emits strong radio waves at any time. Energy-saving light bulbs such as CFLs and LEDs also have chips that emit radio waves. In places with WIFI on all the time, there are radio waves 24 hours a day.

The fourth category that cannot be ignored is dirty electricity through the wires. This is a resonant frequency higher than 60 Hertz, and is most harmful between 2,000 hertz and 100,000 hertz. This comes from waves generated by the turning on and off of electrical appliances and also from computers converting from 60HZ to direct current, and so on. Martin Grahm and Dave Stetzer, who have more than 40 years of experience in this area, have developed filters to remove these frequencies of dirty electricity. The Soviet Union had long been aware of the harmful effects of these frequencies  on the human body, and invited them to go to the Soviet Union many times to study a treatment method. They made a test meter and filtration device that the average person can afford. A home needs 10 to 20 of these devices to remove dirty electricity. Purchases can be made, and information can be found at these websites: Stetzerelectric.com or electrahealth.com.  (In some cases the filters cannot remove the dirty electricity)

These electromagnetic waves around us interfere with the natural sunlight that nourishes life, and destroy the structure of water molecules in the body. Water is the basis for life. Once the water is destroyed, all water-dependent life forms including microbioms: the over one million bacteria, viruses, and mold. In high EMF enviroment, beneficial bacteria also become pathogens, so the effect on the environment is the most critical.

Dr. Klinghardt, as mentioned earlier, said that the leading cause of female deaths in the past two decades is no longer cancer or heart disease, but neurological diseases. Anxiety and chronic fatigue increased by 663%. What is more important to know is that these waves interfere with brain secretions. When we take a mobile phone call, the microwave emission will stimulate the secretion of dopamine, which is associated with addiction and induces the same reaction as sniffing heroin. Each secretion strengthens addiction. This can explain why people carry their mobile phones with them, and even bring them to bed.  A young woman had a large cancerous growth on the side of her face where she listens to her mobile phone.  The growth was removed after eight hours of surgery. She used to sleep with her mobile phone under her pillow, but she still couldn’t stop this addiction, and continued to do so. The cancerous growth came back and she had another surgery. After that, she needed plastic surgery. I know of two friends who needed to check the weather forecast over ten times a day. When the secretion of the addictive dopamine increases, the secretion of citicolin, which is related to memory and thinking, decreases. If this deterioration goes on, dementia occurs.

Each of us can do our best to reduce the production of EMF.  EMF gets trapped in the earth atmosphere. That is a significant and increasing accumulation of EMF in the earth’s atmosphere. I personally feel that this will interfere with the sun’s rays reaching the earth. Sunlight is not only the light wave that our eyes can sense, but there is also the qi aspect. Dr. Steiner said that light has four aspects in the same way that our body has the physical body, etheric body, astral body and the ego body.  Ancient Chinese used the term “yang qi” or sun energy to describe another aspect of sunlight. Electricity is “ying qi” which is opposite to “yang qi”. People living in environments with high EMF have cold hands and feet, poor circulation and poor digestive ability.  All are related to the fact that electricity is “yin“.  At sulight at sunrise  has a special energy. The author of “Biogeometry” mentions that the sun’s rays at that time belongs to the “gold” element, and is a harmonious energy. Thus, to recover from the damage caused by electricity, you can bask in the sun at sunrise; you can also open the window, face the sun, and recharge yourself.

Dr. May once suggested that absorbing the nourishment of light is more important than eating. This nourishment of light can be obtained by visualizing light. Remind yourself during the day to supplement yourself with light nutrition.

Some additional suggestions:

*Essential oils such as lavender and rose can nourish vitality, and the spice rosemary can be frequently used.

*A veterinarian recommended yellow dock (American fleeceflower root).

*I previously mentioned that magnesium is a very important supplement.

* Vitamin B3 or Niacin can repair split genes.

*The amino acid tryptophan is the raw material for making melatonin. A balanced intake of food containing tryptophan is best. This includes millet, seaweed, green algae, black beans, other beans, beetroot, corn, white radish, bananas. nutritional yeast, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc. Because tryptophan is easily damaged by heat, it is necessary to ingest some food that can be eaten without heating.

*It is good to include foods high in vitamin K2 such as natto.

There is still a lot of information from the EMF Summit that remains to be shared.  I have aimed to share the highlights.
