New Generation of Children’s Health Care

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

A friend of mine who lives in a big city recently observed that her friends’ children are suffering from skin allergies, red rashes, and problems of the respiratory tract. I had a chance to ask Dr. Philip Incao about it, who is a pediatrician.  He thinks that children of the current generation are facing a major health crisis, the main causes are overuse of antibiotics and excessive vaccinations.

Dr. Incao is often invited to the Waldorf Schools to speak with parents and teachers about children’s health.  The following are the main points highlighted in his speech to them:

How to treat illnesses related to inflammation?

The best doctors are Dr. Diet, Dr. Quiet  and Dr. Merryman.

Inflammation is the most common ailment in childhood. ‘Infection’ is not an appropriate description as it assumes that pathogenic bacteria are the source of the illness. This is a misunderstanding. We are constantly in contact with germs. Our bodies also contain bacteria, yet we are sick only occasionally. Why do we fall sick only at certain occasions?

From birth till death, our bodies are growing and changing constantly. Health is the balance between mind and body. Childhood is body’s fastest period of growth, where the body goes through many major changes. Old cells die and become waste. The immune system breakdowns the old cells, then fever and inflammation digests them. Germs are not the cause of illnesses; they are merely dependant on the nourishment of the waste products of the old cells.

Doctor Diet

When the body is purging toxins, it is best not to have to digest too much food. Avoid food with high protein when one is down with acute illnesses. The patient can take vegetable soup, herbal teas, vegetable and fruit juices. Beverages should be taken at or above room temperature. Fruits, cooked vegetables and grains can be taken.

Doctor Quiet

During illnesses, children require a quiet, harmonious and peaceful environment. It is best that parents comfort and support the child calmly. When a child is sick, it is often the best opportunity for strengthening parent-child bonding and communication.

Doctor Merryman

Fever should not be viewed as an unhealthy and dangerous bodily reaction. It is a message from the body. It is the body’s reaction in its process of purging toxins and foreign substances. Studies in recent years showed that anti-fever medications repress the immune system and increases toxins in the body. They are actually harmful to the body as they may protract or even complicate the illness.

Many parents have great fear about fever. Towards such great unknown force, it is natural to be fearful. However, inflammation and fever are healing energies. Do not regard flu or fever as disturbances, and feel frustrated, worried or anxious. We can consider them as the function of a deeper wisdom. A positive attitude can help in quicker recovery.

Dr. Incao has a young patient of 5 years old. At the most critical moment of his illness, he told his mother, “Don’t worry, mama, I am just growing.” All the growth in nature requires the initial earth loosening, then fertilization. This is likened to the fever and inflammation of a child.

Walking Out of Fear and Embracing Health

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

A lady who had terminal pancreatic cancer consulted health specialist, Dr. Stephan Anthony (chiropractor), whose treatment method involves finding the source of an illness. Through his experience treating patients over the years, he has identified fear and stress as the common sources of illnesses. Fear causes acidity in the body, an environment that illnesses such as cancer thrive in. Removing this fear as well as the subconscious beliefs to develop fear is the first step to recovery. He used a muscle testing method to assess whether her subconscious is in agreement with the statements “I love myself” and “I want to live” (refer to the book “Energy Medicine” on the muscle testing method). People with serious illnesses generally are subconsciously denying these two statements. As expected, when this lady uttered these two statements, her muscles became weak, which indicated that her subconscious did not agree. Dr. Anthony led this lady to enter into a condition where her left and right brain are in balance. While crisscrossing both her left/right ankles and hands, she softly said “I love myself”. After her body accepted this new thought, the thought “I will live” was inputted into her subconscious. During the session, other negative emotions such as guilt and regret surfaced. The whole process lasted two hours. A few months later, this lady called to say that her doctor could not find any more traces of cancer in her body.

Dr. Anthony uses the analogy of a hard drive to refer to the subconscious mind. Before the age of five, the conscious mind does not  filter one’s life experiences. Whatever he sees, hears or experiences all go straight to the subconscious. For example, our parents’ views of life and of us will form part of our own views of life and of us. These limiting views and emotions such as fear, anxiety, and worry become the driving forces behind our life experiences.

Muscle testing techniques can be used to assess the beliefs contained in the subconscious mind. During testing, keep the eyes looking down. We can test some of our attitude towards life and other views. When our subconscious agrees, our muscles become stronger; when it disagrees, our muscles become weaker. Other than the two statements tested above, others include: (1) the universe has a system, (2) the universe is chaotic, (3) my needs are fulfilled, and (4) life offers me happiness and abundance.

The following example shows how negative emotions can cause negative reactions from the body. About thirty years ago (1980), a psychiatrist, Dr. Roger Callahan, counseled a patient who had water phobia. This lady experienced headaches, nightmares at night, and a poor digestive system. She had sought medical help for many years, and this psychiatrist had counseled her for over 1.5 years without any signs of improvement. At that time, Dr. Callahan was learning the Chinese meridian system. On that day, this patient had some digestive problems. In a moment of inspiration, he used his fingers to tap below her eyes (which contained an acupuncture point on her stomach meridian). To his surprise, her fear towards water immediately disappeared, and so did her headache. She immediately ran to the side of a nearby swimming pool to wash her face, and did not experience any more nightmares. Dr. Callagan used this method of tapping on acupuncture points to cure many other patients of their illnesses. This simple method has been used by many other psychiatrists with very good results. Seventeen years ago, Gary Craig, an engineer who graduated from Stanford University, learnt this method and then simplified it to one that anyone can use. He feels that one can tap on major acupuncture points for a minute each, without identifying the specific acupuncture points where the emotional energies resided. This was how the Emotional Free Technique (EFT for short) was born.

Craig’s explanation is that negative emotions arise because of blockages in the meridians. If these energy blockages are not cleared, the emotional issues will continue to surface. Tapping on acupuncture points is a simple way to clear these blockages. As an example, last year, a singer was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She spent five days to tap on her acupuncture points to eliminate the chaos, confusion and conflicts that she had experienced in life. When her surgeon operated on her five days later, he could not find any trace of cancer. This singer had invited her friends to be witnesses, and assist her in getting rid of her blockages.

Craig used EFT to counsel many patients whose bodies and minds had been greatly wounded. These patients included war veterans from the Vietnam and Iraq wars. These veterans were physically and mentally wounded during the wars, and images of the war kept surfacing in their dreams. Fear, shock, anger, guilt, and self-reproach filled their entire consciousness, and prevented them from leading normal lives. EFT was able to remove many of these symptoms within minutes. After a few sessions, they were able to lead normal lives. Their transformation is nothing short of a miracle. Many car accident victims also experienced aftereffects, but were able to recover after using EFT. There was a lady who needed to use crutches to walk and had chronic headaches. She survived a road accident many years ago. Her family members were in the car during the accident, but her injuries were most severe. To heal her headache, he asked her to tap the outside edges of her hand (or press the two sore points located on the upper left and right of her chest). As she had tapped on these points, she said: “Although I have a headache, I completely accept myself”. After that, she repeated “I have a headache” and tapped on the major acupuncture points on her face around her eyebrows, corner of her eyes, between her nose and lips (renzhong acupuncture point), lower jaw, and areas below her armpits that she can reach. After a few rounds, her headache became less severe. Then, she changed her verse to: “Although I am still having a little headache, I completely accept myself”. After a few minutes, her headache disappeared. She then turned to healing her inability to balance herself in walking. She said: “Although I cannot balance myself when I walk, I forgive myself”. Craig may have guessed that she was blaming herself for the accident because she was driving the car at the time of the accident. After a few rounds of tapping on the acupuncture points, she no longer needed crutches to walk. Upon a further few rounds, she was able to stand up on one foot. She found it hard to believe the speed of her own recovery.

In his new book, The EFT Manual, Craig emphasized that the method works best when there is a specific goal in mind. Those who fear heights can perform the tapping while recalling standing on high altitude. Those who want to clear the blockages from being beaten, scolded or harmed have to think about the actual scenes when these incidents occurred, and clear the blockages one by one. Although we may not remember some of the incidents, the associated blockages can be released during the clearing session.

Based on Craig’s experience, 70% of people only need to tap on the acupuncture points mentioned earlier to clear their blockages. However, the remaining 30% need to tap on additional point called the Gamut point, located on the back of each hand, half an inch behind the midpoint between the knuckles at the base where the fourth finger and little finger meet toward the wrist. As they tap on the Gamut point continuously, they have to perform the following nine actions:

  1. close their eyes
  2. open their eyes
  3. eyes turn toward the right corner of the eyes
  4. eyes turn toward the left corner of the eyes
  5. eyes turn clockwise
  6. eyes turn anti-clockwise
  7. hum two seconds of a song such as “Happy Birthday”
  8. count 1 to 5
  9. hum two seconds of a song again

Here are some verses for your reference when going through the treatment: “Although I am afraid of snakes, I completely accept myself”, and “I deeply love and accept myself, even though … ”. Other than the methods introduced by the book, you can also consider using other wholesome thoughts. You can chant a mantra, visualize light, or invoke some thoughts that bring you comfort such as “Please bless me, Avalokiteshvara”. All incidents that lower our energy levels can be subjected to the tapping treatment. Similarly, when one is feeling emotional, the treatment can be used immediately to prevent the accumulation of the emotions within the meridians.

Many events that we no longer think about can interfere with our energies. These include: moving, changing schools, war, giving birth, quarrels, falling out of love, getting lost, accidents, and being ostracized. The EFT method can also be used to remove body ailments such as blocked nose, gastric pains, headaches, fatigue, allergies, as well addictions to liquor, cigarettes, and food. It is also possible to do the tapping on behalf of others. Imagine yourself as someone else and then tap the acupuncture points. There was a case of a lady who was woken up by her husband’s snoring. She tapped on her acupuncture points on his behalf, and in a short while, her husband’s snoring stopped.

Falling sick is an opportunity for healing and awakening ourselves. It can eliminate the emotions and experiences that limit us. The way we view ourselves and life may be inherited from the way our parents look at us—is it with respect? acceptance? welcome? without worry? or is it anxiety? rejection? control?

The negative can be changed to become positive. When the left and right brains are in balance, input new ideal scenes into our consciousness. Our parents are looking at us with welcome, respect, acceptance, and without worry. Only when this message is completely accepted is the transmission considered complete. Sometimes, difficulties may be encountered when inputting the new message. One lady said that she had trouble visualizing being loved by her mother because she had never received love from her mother.

I suggest that it is possible that her mother may not have received love when she was young, so one way is to visualize herself as her grandmother who is giving love to her mothers. This may be an easier way to change this negative attitude towards one’s mother, and to input the feeling of being loved. Another lady said that both her parents had been adopted, and did not know who her paternal and maternal grandparents were. I suggested that she use the power of her mind to bring the energies of the three generations together. A few days later, on the day that the June workshop ended, she emotionally told me that she had succeeded in doing this. She could feel the energies of her paternal and maternal grandparents connect with those of her parents.

Another student asked me why her ailments tended to be on the right side. In general, the right side is associated with one’s father, and the left side associated with one’s mother. Hence, I enquired about her father’s condition, and she replied that her father was generally in good health and died in his nineties. I then asked her about her relationship with her father. She said that it wasn’t good—her parents had an unhappy marriage, and through the influence of her mother, she could not relate well to her father even though he loved her very much. It was only after his death that she felt regret. I told her that even though her father was no longer in this world, she could still send her love and blessings to him as one’s consciousness does not die.

One of the teachers at the Crestone workshop was Harold McCoy, who learnt about the power of the mind through dowsing. He later investigated about the nature of the mind and its utilization. He once used the dowsing method to find a stolen harp, even though he was in Arkansas and the harp was in California. He also used the dowsing g method to locate a little girl lost in the forest. He can cause a tumor to quickly disappear, help a brain-dead young man come to life, and even enabled a cat to grow new teeth.

In his distance healing, he first cleanses the mind of its negative energies left by negative emotions. He does this by visualizing a tube filled with white liquid light, allowing unconditional love from the universe to cleanse the mind of fear, anger, sorrow, etc.

This November, he will conduct a course in Asia on how to develop one’s ability to heal oneself, other people, and the earth.  During class everyday, we performed distance healing on the earth, cleansing her and helping her to recuperate. We will send love from the universe in the form of light to earth, and the colours include white, green, blue, golden, and the seven rainbow colours. We made arrangement everyday at Taiwan time 7 a.m. and California time 3 p.m. (solar time) to spend five minutes blessing and healing the earth. We welcome everyone to join us in sending our blessings to every life form on earth.

Opening the Loving Heart, Welcoming 2012

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Last year, a Mayan shaman from Guatamala, who is the 13th lineage holder, broke the five hundred year silence in regard to 2012. He sought the help of a westerner, Drunvalo Melchizedek, to announce the Mayan prophecies for this time. The Mayans predicted that this is a time for the earth to undergo a dramatic change, and hope that more people will be prepared in order to minimize harm and fear. Their culture preserved the memories of their ancestors from 26,000 years ago.  They believe that we need to know the past in order to know the future. These ancient ancestors have been waiting for people from this generation to connect with their wisdom and experience.
According to the Mayans, every thirteen thousand years the north and south poles of the earth will shift their axis. Science has documented that the earth’s poles have shifted hundreds of times. The scientific explanation is that the earth’s magnetic fields will first weaken then become zero. At this time, the rocks beneath the earth’s crust would melt and the crust could then rotate, shifting the two poles. According to the history of the Mayan culture, it takes 30 hours for the magnetic field to become zero. During this time, the earth will become completely dark.  People will not be able to see the light of the stars, moon, or sun.

After the change in the equator’s position, the climate for each region will change. It is important to observe the new climate conditions and make suitable adjustments to avoid being overly cold or hot.
According to the Mayans, 2012 marks the end of two cycles of 26,000 years. Before December 21, 2012, the two poles of the earth will definitely shift. This is consistent with the observations of scientists who have been observing the diminishing magnetic fields of the earth.  They also warned of the impending shift of the north and south poles.

On November 24, 2007, a comet exploded in outer space, creating a blue star that is larger than the sun. According to American Indian’s prophecy, this signifies that the earth is approaching the end of a cycle, and that this will be followed by tumultuous changes. The human consciousness will elevate and enter into a higher level. Most importantly, people must embrace loving kindness to survive this dimensional shift. The earth will enter the Fifth World (there are nine worlds in total). The Fifth World is the balancing point for the meeting of all the worlds. Mankind will no longer be addicted to material things, but will live freely in loving kindness.

The Mayan prophecy had predicted that when technology reached its apex, it is also the time when our consciousness would transform. After this transformation, people will no longer need these technological “toys”. The Mayans also have other predictions. Man will fly in metallic boxes, and will be obsessed with technological toys.

Currently, new technological products abound and progress at an astronomical rate, especially developments in telecommunication and electronic games. Adults and children are obsessed with these new toys. Unfortunately, these toys tend to harm both humans and nature. The detrimental effects of electricity on man’s health have been noted for about a century, with the negative effects exacerbated in recent years. For the last ten years I have been discussing these issues in the Lapis Lazuli Light magazine (e.g., see May 2001 issue; August/November 2006 issues, etc). In the past few years, there have been more research reports on the harmful effects of electricity. In 2007, a group of experts summarized over 2000 research reports, and published a report on the negative effects of electromagnetic and wireless radiation on human health.

EMF, microwaves and radio waves can interfere with the human body in the following ways:

  1. interfering gene and protein expression.
  2. damaging our genes.
  3. create stress reaction, and cause cells to produce stress proteins.
  4. interfering  our immune system.
  5. interrupt our nervous system, behavior and attitude.
  6. cause cancer such as leukemia in children (see www.bioinitiative.org)

There is an association between exposure to electrical sources and common modern-day illnesses such as brain tumor, malignant skin cancer, asthma, heart problems, weakened immune system, hormonal imbalances, diabetes, sleep disorders, headaches, dementia, and hyperactivity. The harm caused to children and youths are generally more serious. A Swedish research report indicated that the incidence of brain tumor is five times higher among users mobile phones who started in their teens compared to those who started in their adult l.

Exposure to electromagnetic and wireless radiation is relative new for living systems.  The defense mechanism of living cells will immediately cause the microtubules (channels through which nutrients and toxins enter or leave the cell) to close, preventing nutrients from entering and toxins from leaving. This invasion to the living systems occurs 24 hours, and the cells have no way to recover their normal functions. In the long run, this will cause diseases to occur. Research studies showed that cells produced stress proteins in response to this harm.  This can lead to many illnesses such as high blood pressure and stroke.

Electromagnetic radiation can also damage the molecular structures of water, interfering with its solubility and transporting functions. In the November 2006 issue of Lapis Lazuli Light magazine (“Water: Source of Life, Source of Illnesses”), I mentioned that Mr. Masaru Emoto took photographs of frozen water crystal structures and showed that pollution and mobile phone exposure can damage these crystalline structures. When the function of water is interfered with in our bodies, our cells will lack water and toxins cannot be discharged.  Dehydration is one reason for signs of aging.
Living in these times, we can take protective steps against this radiation, starting with our sleep environment. The field of building biology makes the following recommendations:
1. use battery-operated alarm clocks instead of electric clocks.
2. turn off the electric power to the bedroom where we sleep at night.
3. avoid the use of metals in bedding, such as box spring mattresses.
4. check to see that the electromagnetic radiation in the bedroom is low (it is best that the bedroom is furthest away from the sources of electromagnetic radiation);  turn off and unplug all electrical appliances, other than the refrigerator, especially stereo systems, television, and the computer, to avoid remnant radiation from them.

After the 1970s, many new electrical appliances such as the television, fax machines, and stereo systems caused electrical wires to carry “dirty electricity” of the frequency above 1 kilohertz. The adverse effects of electricity on our health generally come from this “dirty electricity”. For instance, some types of diabetes and hypertension are related to this. Sleep is a critical way by which our body repairs itself, and hence, minimizing interference from electromagnetic and microwave radiation during sleep is very important. Many people have discovered that turning off the electrical mains at night improved their quality of sleep. They slept less and wake up feeling refreshed and happy. Their dream were also more lucid.  Even their digestive systems and bowel movements improved.

In the past few years, other than suggesting that people reduce the use of electrical appliances and locate a safe sleeping area, we have also introduced many other ways of protecting ourselves from radiation: use of peat moss, cobalt blue color films or cobalt blue glass bottles, numbers, electrical energizers, mantras of compassion, crystal mineral stones, etc. Recently, I have a new inspiration—perhaps, as prophesized by the Mayans, we will soon enter a higher-consciousness world, and methods originating from outside our three-dimensional world would appear.
All of us can try the following experiment to see if it is effective. Take photographs of cell phone towers, electrical cable poles, and buildings with WI-FI. Place Om Mani Padme Hum writings on these photographs. Write the mantra in the triangular formation. It is best to use blue ink to write the mantra; the more the better. If you have a prayer wheel with many mantras, put the photographs beneath the prayer wheel; every photograph should have a mantra. My initial experimentation produced very satisfactory outcomes.

The Mayan culture believes that the world is a creation of our consciousness. Hence, loving kindness can change the unsatisfactory aspects of our world. The mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, is the switch that turn on the loving kindness in the universe. We should use it more often.

Regardless of whether the Mayan prophecy will happen, it is clear that the world will benefit if we open our hearts to loving kindness, and elevate our consciousness.

Light Up You and Me, Light Up Our Lives

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Sunlight is an indispensable source of nourishment for all forms of life on earth, particularly plants. Animals and humans derive sunlight through plants. Recently, research shows that agricultural methods can influence the luminosity of plants. The luminosity of plants grown through chemical fertilizers is only 10% that of plants grown in the wild, and 10% of plants grown using natural agricultural methods. Our health is also associated with light. Those who are healthy emit more photons than those who are ill. The luminosities of humans and plants can be revealed by taking photos using the Kirlian method. A previous issue of the Lapis Lazuli Light magazine published Kirlian photographs of plants used in Synergy products.

Our eyes may not be able to see a product’s luminosity, but it influences our health. Many years ago, a cancer recuperation centre found that only naturally grown organic products have healing properties. We now know that these products differ from other products not only in terms of nutrition (particularly minerals) but also luminosity as well.

Using the dowsing method, I made further investigations into colour spectrum of plants.
In general, fruits and vegetables grown with chemical fertilizers have very limited colour spectrum (perhaps one or two colours), compared to the multitude of colours associated with those grown using natural organic methods. Spices that have a warm nature tend to have red, yellow, and orange colours, while those with cooling nature tend to have more blue and green colours. To maintain a healthy body, it is essential to absorb the full spectrum of colours in the food we take.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Penang again. Coincidentally, I found that people use spices that contain the full colour spectrum, and almost all of these spices are grown naturally or found in the wild. Generally, spices are grown without chemical fertilizers. In my visit to Penang ten years ago, I met a local herbalist who used wild plants to heal many cancer patients. People’s experience was that drinking the water of boiled pandan leaves can prevent and cure cancer.

I also checked the colour spectrum of many seasoning ingredients found in the market, as well as that of blue flowers, turmeric, nutmeg, ginger, lemon grass, small tangerines, peppermint, tangerine leaves, including many unrecognized green plants which were used as spices. I found that many of these have the full colour spectrum. Of the two types of peppermints that I examined, the one with the smaller leaves contains the full colour spectrum, while the other contains only part of spectrum. The former was a species grown in the wild, while the other was what people commonly use. Why would green plants possess the full colour spectrum? I believe that the aura of plants cannot be seen by the naked eye. Thus, differences in the colour spectrum between plants grown using chemical fertilizers and those grown organically are not apparent on the surface, and can only be detected using special photographic techniques or equipment. Sometimes, our eyes can make this distinction. I recall that every time I go to Bob Cannard’s farm, I sense that his fruits have an indescribable luminosity. Similarly his plums just look different.

Currently, food generally do not possess much radiance. Thus, it is helpful to supplement our food with spices, wild plants and naturally grown agricultural products that have luminosity. When I was visiting Hualian in Taiwan, I searched for plants with the full colour spectrum. In Hualian, it is possible to obtain wild or half-wild vegetables sold by the aborigines. I discovered that many types of vegetables have the full colour spectrum; these include red leaf vegetables, small bitter melon, huangong tsai, and others such as stinging nettle, and “lung quae” also possess more than five colours. Ginger has nine colours, while wild yam has red, purple, and blue colours. “Zhaohe” grass has the greenish-blue colour only—it is unclear whether this is due to chemical fertilizers in the ground or its genetic origin. During Japanese Occupation, seeds are thrown and scattered from the planes.  These seeds are most likely originated from Japan. Stinging nettle leaves also contain many colours. Peppermint grown in one of the local farms also has the full colour spectrum. In contrast, some of the wild plants grown on the roadside do not possess any colour, possibly due to pollution from the exhaust fumes of vehicles passing by. In Taiwan, fallen leaves from the “ganren” tree can be boiled in water to treat liver problems. These leaves possess yellowish-red and orange colours, while its fruits possess the remaining colours in the spectrum. In combination, the leaves and fruits contain the full colour spectrum.

Books on light therapy indicate that red light is good for the liver. When I returned to America, I also measured the colour spectrum of organically grown spices such as sage, oregano, marjoram, chervil—these have the full colour spectrum. The fragrance of a product and its colour spectrum have a close association. Traditionally, products such as fruits and vegetables have a fragrance but nowadays, many of the hybrid fruits have neither the fragrance nor the colour of the past, even though their sizes are large. Taking food that has no fragrance can cause us to lack the radiance of the colour spectrum. What are the symptoms if we lack many colours in the spectrum? This question needs further investigation. I once tested the photograph of a child who was suffering from autism, and found that he lacked many colours in the spectrum. His mother also lacked the colour green. I am curious whether his condition would improve if the missing colours were replenished.

Besides using wild and natural agricultural products to supplement our colour spectrum, we can also use light therapy and colour visualization. Dr Mitchell May, whose recuperation from a serious accident was a medical miracle, was in the intensive care unit for nine months. His daily homework was to visualize that his entire body was filled with light. Both light therapy and visualization help to heal parts of our body that have been damaged by electromagnetic waves. A few years ago, I was injured by high voltage electromagnetic radiation and my left shoulder was in pain for three weeks. My tests indicated that the right side of my body needed green colour, my left side needed magenta colour, my head needed green colour, and my chest needed magenta colour. During the day, I would use light emitted through the magenta colour film to shine on my left shoulder, and the pain would go away. At night, the pain would return when I didn’t use the colour film. This personal experience left a deep impression of the effects of light on our body.

The invisible parts of our body influence the visible parts. Light or qi nourishes our physical body. If we have this understanding, we will be able to truly achieve holistic health of our body, mind, and spirit. Otherwise, we will focus our attention only on the visible body, assuming that it encompasses every aspect, just like a machine. This is influenced by Newtonian physics. From the perspective of energy in the field of quantum mechanics, if we raise the energy of our entire body, our physical body will also transform from an unhealthy to a healthy state. Thus, although visualization is a mental activity, it can influence the energy of our entire body.

Below, I describe a visualization using green and magenta colours and also incorporate Harold McCoy’s method of using liquid light to nourish the qi in our body. This is particularly important after chemotherapy. In a sense, all of us have undergone chemotherapy—there are over 400 man-made chemicals in our body, and the entire earth has also been subjected to chemotherapy. Hence, in our final visualization, we also visualize the earth going through a colour bath.

The following two visualizations were introduced during the November 2009 Taiwan talk, and one can do these visualizations by following the instructions in the DVD (see note below).

Green and magenta colour visualization
Relax the entire body, and take a few deep breaths. Breathe in into the belly and count eight times, then stop for eight counts before breathing out eight times. Visualize that there is a green sun above our head, shining into our head and nourishing our head, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and teeth. The green light further fills our throat, chest, arms, abdomen, and legs. It fills our entire body, flowing into our bones and blood circulation system, lymphatic system, our internal secretion system, internal organs and genes. It heals all that need to be healed, rejuvenate all that need to be rejuvenated. Then, leave the green light on the right side of the body.

After that, visualize a magenta sun on top of our head, and its light entering our head and shining on our head, then our throat, and chest. It specially shines upon our lungs, heart, and then our abdomen and legs, followed by our blood circulation system, bones, internal organs, flesh, and especially the left side of our body.

Colour bath visualization

In front of us is a crystal bathtub that contains liquid of many colours—green, yellow, red, blue, violet, orange, and lapis lazuli, etc. Step into the bath, and let the body immerse into the colourful fluids, absorbing all the colours that our body needs. Absorb the colours either individually or all at the same time, till the body has absorbed all that it needs. Then leave the bath. Let the bathtub become immeasurably large, and let the earth immerse in the bath, washing away the earth’s filth from the highest mountains to the sky. Allow the earth to absorb all the colours it needs, and let its water, air, soil, plants, animals and human beings return to their original brilliance.

The DVD containing Dr. Lai’s talk “Joy in welcoming the return of the new earth’s spirit” is now available.

Letting Go of Sorrow, Reconnect with the Joy of Life

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

I first met Ted, a musician, two years ago. He was still grieving the death of his beloved daughter who committed suicide. His two sisters also passed away one after the other. I told him about Dr. Steiner’s writings on the importance of staying connected with our loved ones after they pass away, in particular sending love and blessing to them. I met Ted again recently and he appeared happier. He related that he was doing well personally and financially.

How did he emerge from his grief and sorrow? I asked him curiously. He said he discovered messages that came from the Spiritual realm. As a result he understood the continuity of Life, thinking and the Law of Attraction. He practiced it in his life, focusing his attention on positive thinking and on what he wanted. He freed himself of sadness, fear and anger. He had close encounters with death many times during the Vietnam War, and reacted with anger. At that time he did not understand that we live in a multi-dimensional world. He never considered the existence of life beyond our 3-dimensional perception. Since the death of his daughter, he has been communicating with the non-physical dimension, especially when he performs on stage. He consciously invites musicians from the Spiritual realm to perform with him, and he discovers a different experience in his fingers when he plays the guitar.

I asked him to provide a few examples to illustrate the law of attraction with thoughts. He said there was a person who borrowed a large sum of money from him and refused to return. Every time he thought of this, he became angry and even thought of harming the other person. When he understood the principle of negative thinking attracting more negative events, he swiftly shifted his attention. He thanked this person for helping him to realize the need to transform his thoughts in order to attract what he wanted. Consequently, this person returned the sum of money.

Every day, he wakes up thinking that each day is a new beginning, and he can choose to put his attention on what he envisions and what he wants. Happiness is a choice; life is meant to be joyous. “My happiness does not depend on others, it depends on me.” He chooses not to watch the news, neither does he follow the economic situation. Ever since he transformed his habitual ways of thinking, placing his attention on the positive and optimistic, his life improved in many different ways. He upgraded his house; his wealth improved; he made new friends, and most importantly, he is happy every single day. He feels love for people and situations, and only wishes to contribute to make a better world. It is a miraculous breakthrough for someone who used to be addicted to alcohol and drugs. The songs he composes also reflects his joyful attitude towards life.

There are steps to follow for us to move from sorrow to joy. It requires our commitment to improve step by step – from despair to sorrow, sorrow to rage, rage to acceptance, acceptance to hope, and finally, joy. He advised against resistance and resentment because this would only reinforce what is being resisted and resented. Mother Teresa once remarked, “I will not participate in any anti-war demonstrations… but if there is a peace rally, I’ll be there.”

If we focus on dissatisfaction, we will attract more of what’s dissatisfactory. Those who like to complain will have endless things to complain about. One who has gratitude will attract more conditions to be grateful for. People commonly pay attention to obstacles, misfortunes and dissatisfactions. Even the news mirrors our inner world. What usually get reported in the news are catastrophes, criminals and misdeeds. As a result, mass-consciousness is reinforced with all that is undesirable. We can change this when we shift our focus to what’s positive and optimistic.

It works the same way in our body. We tend to focus on areas in our body that are uncomfortable, painful and diseased. If we shift our focus to promote and improve health, the body will naturally heal itself of pain and disease. We need time to overcome our mental habits. As the first step, we have to understand we attract what we feel, experience and encounter, just like trauma creates traumas. If we wish to change this, we need to release trauma.

Contemplate on what we truly want. What do we want to attract into our lives? What kind of feelings do we want to have? Emotions are the greatest attractive force; positive emotional feelings attract more situations for us to feel positive – gratefulness and rejoicing are the best feelings to practice. Decide upon awakening that today, no matter what happens, I will be grateful. Rejoice all that we have, including people whom we dislike and consider our enemies. Rejoice whatever good that happens to them.

Dr. Mitchell May mentioned once about someone who always said ‘Thank you’. This person was full of joy and had the ability to heal. Even a handshake with him healed sick people. Many years ago, one meditation teacher of mine also said ‘Thank you’ at all times, even when she accidentally dropped a bowl of soup onto the floor. Jack Schwarz emphasized that we are able to heal ourselves when we are in a happy, excited state. In our modern time, we can work together to transform our adversities to favorable conditions. The way Ted said it “I live in an amazing world, an amazing place. Life is beautiful! I can decide to improve my life, I feel abundance, I feel blessed.”

If Life is Like a Dream, How to change Our Dreams

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Ten years ago, a group of us went to Mount Wutai. One of our friends, a poetess, saw the following poem titled “The Dream Poem” on the wall of the Zhulin Monastery. This poem was written by Master Danxu when he was 82 years of age:

Life is a dream
Everything is like a dream
What can be experienced is but a dream
Dream is even more so a dream
Closing our eyes is a dream
Opening our eyes is also a dream
Although dreams can be long or brief
They are dreams no less
Creating various karma in dream
Will similarly experience karmic outcomes in the dream
For the enjoyment of a moment
Leads to suffering of immeasurable eons
We are all the same in the dream
No distinction in wisdom or status

The mind rises and dream arises
The mind ceases and dream ceases
Recognizing dream as dream
The realization awakens us from the dream
Both the dreamer and dream cease
The clear mind is not a dream

I appreciated this poem very much when I first read it.  Even now I still feel that it is a poem worth reading again and again, especially as a reminder and a solution to physical and mental difficulties we face in our lives. If life is a dream, it can be changed; there is also a time of awakening. Consequently, when we encounter difficulties, we won’t be obsessed and sink deeper into the situation.

Begin by learning how to alter our dreams when we sleep. Once we have this experience, we will have the confidence to alter our dreams when we are awake. Many years ago, Stanford University had a laboratory that undertook research on dreaming. Stephen LaBerge described some of these research findings in the book “Lucid Dreaming”. For instance, a person dreaming of watching a table-tennis match will move his eyes from left to right. Researchers  fortuitously discovered a way to communicate with a person in the dream state. Before the dreamer  performed a pre-determined activity, he would move his eyes left and right to communicate. The researchers found that activities in dream state produced the same reactions in brain waves, muscle and heart as they do when the person is awake.  In the dream, singing a song activated the right brain, counting activated the left brain, and running increased the heart beat.

This dream research laboratory also counseled people who frequently have nightmares. They were trained such that when they realized they were dreaming, they could alter their dreams. A lady had nightmares for many years that she was being chased. Once she became aware that she was dreaming, she changed her past reaction in the dream. In her dream, instead of running away, she turned around to face her pursuer. In the end, the pursuer vaporized into smoke in her dream, and she never had these nightmares again. Stephen LaBerge through training himself to be lucid in dreams eliminated many of his fears. He also had many breakthroughs in his consciousness and his daytime experiences also began to change.

There are a few methods to train ourselves to be aware that we are dreaming. One of these methods is to tell ourselves before we sleep: “One I am dreaming, two I am dreaming, three I am dreaming, four I am dreaming, five I am dreaming, six I am dreaming,  seven I am dreaming …” until we fall asleep. The second method is to frequently tap our body during the day and think: “I am dreaming”. When this becomes a habit, we will also learn to tap ourselves to remind ourselves that we are dreaming. Once we know we are dreaming, we can change our habitual responses in the dream and have a breakthrough. For example, we can face what is fearful but not be frightened, or face what brings anger but not be angry. In this way, the negative energies hidden in our subconscious will dissolve away. What we encounter in our dreams all appear and feel so real, but when we wake up, we realize that all these are creations of our mind. Similarly, the dreams we have with our eyes open are also creations of our mind. They are projections of the cumulative energies stored in our consciousness arising from our thoughts, speech and actions from beginningless time. Some of these projections come from messages we received in our mothers’ wombs,  from our birth or our childhood. If we hold the view that our life’s experiences are real and unchangeable, we will not think of changing and will accept things in a fatalistic way. Mr. Yuan Liaofan of the Ming dynasty had this fatalistic view of life during the earlier part of his life, and hence, he had no aspirations. Later, he met a Zen master who taught him the way to change his dreams. As a result, he later had a son, enjoyed long life, and was promoted to as a government official. He documented his entire life’s experiences in altering his dreams and therefore changing his fortunes. His book “Liaofan‘s Four Lessons” is still popular even after all this time, and has benefitted many people. This is a good book that is worth re-reading in great detail.

To change our daytime dreams, we need to first see everything as illusory, just like what the Diamond Sutra says: “Everything that is conditional is like a dream, a bubble, a dew, a flash of lightning. One should observe this way.” In this way, we can reduce our greed, and aversion, and hatred. These mental states will only cause our nightmares to perpetuate. We have to first realize we are dreaming before we can change our dreams and stop dreaming.

If we understand that what we see, hear and feel all arises from our mind, we can easily grasp the key to changing our dreams and not blindly seek help from external sources, blame others or not accept our own responsibilities. In actual fact, the root cause of our happiness and suffering springs from our mind. Many years ago, when Ethiopia encountered a drought, a strange thing occurred. When originally good water was transported to the drought area, it turned bad. This is because the victims’ minds were all projecting a common dream of a drought, and this blocked the delivery of good water. The same drop of water can be experienced differently by beings of different merits—hungry ghosts do not see water, devas see it as  nector, and completely enlightened Buddhas also see it as nectar.

People around us can be those who are fortunate or unfortunate in whatever they do. The two persons may go to the same place, the same restaurant or meet the same person, but they will have different experiences. There is an ancient Chinese saying that connotes the message: “Lovers see a striking beauty in their partners”. This is a very accurate description—ten people who encounter a person or an incident will have ten different viewpoints. Who is right? Who is wrong? They are both right and wrong.

Altering the dreams when we are awake or sleeping is the same. If our thoughts, speech and actions arise from loving kindness and the wish to benefit others, we experience happiness, fortune and bliss in our dream states. If our thoughts, speech and actions arise from selfishness or intentions to harm others, we experience suffering and difficulties in our dream states. When we encounter obstacles and undesirable situations, we need to both repent our past unwholesome thoughts and actions, and also develop our compassion and wish to benefit others. In this way, our dreams can be altered.

Repentance and purification are methods shared in common by all spiritual practices. The key is to sincerely repent and resolve not to harm others with our body, speech and mind. From beginningless time, we have developed all kinds of unwholesome thoughts and performed unwholesome deeds. These negative energies can be activated anytime and cause us to have nightmares. In Buddhism, practices such as prostrations to the 88 Buddhas, 35 Buddhas, the Great Repetence and the Emperor Liang Repentence are all methods to dispel our mental poisons and change our dreams.

In his discourses, the enlightened practitioner Lama Zopa Rinpoche clearly explains ways to alter our dreams, and how to use a positive mindset to face illnesses and obstacles in our lives. In this way, we can have breakthroughs. In his book “Ultimate Healing: The Power of Compassion”, he emphasizes how to use our precious gem: our pristine and luminous mind. He tells us to use illnesses to practice compassion, wisdom and awakening. Every word and phrase in his book can be used as a meditative tool for reflection. Some examples include: “Ignorance is the root of all illnesses and all suffering”, and “The medicine we use is the awakened consciousness—our innate nature that understands the ultimate reality”. Chapter 12 of the book touches on how to benefit from setbacks in our lives, and the first page teaches us how to have positive reflections: “What is termed “obstacles” are actually opportunities that force us to meditate and develop our mind. Because of suffering and the associated afflictions, we can eliminate our pride, and develop compassion for beings in cyclic existence. Illnesses are like brooms because they help clear our bad karma and ignorance. During such times, we should contemplate that our setbacks do not mean anything as other innumerable sentient beings suffer more than us. If they can liberate themselves from this suffering, how good it would be. I aspire to free them from their sufferings.”

In addition, he quotes the words of a Kadampa practitioner: “Receiving praise can only lead us to inflate the ego and develop greater pride. In contrast, receiving insults and humiliation will immediately eliminate our past wrongdoings.” Obstacles can develop our loving kindness, compassion, patience, wisdom and other virtues, as well as realize emptiness.

When we can accept the suffering of sickness with joy, we attain freedom. In the case of certain practitioners who have successfully trained their mental consciousness, they can still be happy even when they encounter what people commonly regard as suffering.  Geshe Lama Konchog, who has passed away, had spent 25-year in meditation retreat. He mentioned that he had once fallen down and experienced physical pain. However, at the moment when he hit the ground, his mind was very happy because his wish to take on the suffering of sentient beings had been fulfilled. Another example is Geshe Tsultim Gyeltsen, who passed away early this year in Los Angeles. Last October, he found out that his stomach cancer had spread to his liver, and elected to undergo chemotherapy treatment. One of his ordained students who was very close to him immediately went to take care of him. In particular, in Geshe’s final 2.5 months, he was literally by his side all the time. He observed that although Geshe  La was very ill and hospitalized, he never paid attention to himself but kept caring about other people—the doctors, nurses, and janitors. He always appeared to be happy. One day, this student couldn’t resist asking Geshe how he kept himself so happy. Geshe replied: there are two verses in his daily practice that are very helpful:

The first is “Compassionate gurus, may all sentient beings’ karmic debts, difficulties, and sufferings be borne by me. Let me give them happiness and merits. May all sentient beings be happy.”

The second verse that enabled Geshe La to maintain his joy is: “Should the fruits of karma of the surrounding and its sentient beings within ripen, and unwanted sufferings fall down like rain, I seek your blessings to let me bear these sufferings and transform them into my dharma path, and realize that because of these sufferings I can exhaust all the karmic consequences of unwholesome deeds.”

The heart that wishes to benefit others is the cause of all mundane and supramundane happiness. Lama Zopa Rinpoche taught many methods of transforming our minds that will allow us to change our dreams.

Rejoicing in the happiness of others is very easy to do. We rejoice whenever we see or hear  others perform virtuous actions or meet with good fortune. We rejoice in the virtuous actions of our past, present and future, and rejoice even more in the past, present and future virtuous actions of enlightened beings. In our hearts, we think: how wonderful, and feel great joy! In this way, we will very easily open our hearts, quickly change our fortunes, as well as counter our tendencies to be envious.

When we wake up in the morning, we can think: “May all living beings be free from suffering and attain ultimate bliss.”
When we put on our clothes, we can contemplate: “May all living beings be warm.”
When we open the door, we can think: “May all living beings enter the door of wisdom and liberation.”
When we close the door, we can think: “May the doors of the three lower realms be closed.”
When we walk, we can think: “May all beings quickly reach the shore of liberation.”
When it rains, we can think: “Rain water is like nectar that washes away all suffering, and satisfy the needs of all living beings.”

When we eat, be appreciative of the hard work that went into preparing the meal, and all the life forms that have sacrificed their lives. Agricultural production necessarily involves harm to many lives. Once you realize the emptiness of food, visualize the food as nectar that fills the entire space and offer it to all enlightened beings in the universe, especially the Compassionate Buddha Avalokiteshsvara, Medicine Buddha who helps to avert all calamities and extend life, and Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha with his great vows. Also offer the nectar to sentient beings in the six realms so that they can be liberated from suffering and attain ultimate bliss. Before we go to sleep, we can chant the names of the 35 Buddhas 35 times, even better with prostration, and this can raise our consciousness and eliminate many of our obstacles. Also think: “May all living beings attain the dharmakaya (pure mind). We can also think about our spiritual teachers, Amitabha, Avalokiteshsvara, God, etc. In this way, our dreams at night will become blessed and auspicious. One day, we will awaken from our day and night dreams, and will no longer be dreaming. Then, we will realize our true luminous nature.

Rethinking Cancer

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

For many people, when they found out that they had cancer, they would face a big test as to whether to listen to the Western doctors’ suggestion of chemotherapy and/or surgical operation; or to opt for a non-toxic method of holistic therapy, whether to use a method to kill cancer or to repair the body and discharge toxins.

Recently I saw an educational film directed by Dr Incao M.D., a doctor of Anthroposophical Medicine.  The film was produced by the Foundation for Advancement in Cancer Therapy (F.A.C.T.) organization which has been promoting holistic health for the last 40 years. In Rethinking Cancer, Dr Incao presented the introduction, which was followed by an interview with an oncologist who left her field to practice Functional Medicine.  In between were the narrations of five patients, who shared their personal experience of their healing process.  When a few of these patients were diagnosed with cancer, the disease was declared incurable. The fifth patient had a severe case of Lymes disease. Their courage and perseverance were fully demonstrated during the conversation.  These “terminally”-ill patients survived for more than 15 years, the longest being 37 years.  They were deeply grateful to Ruth Sachman, the founder of F.A.C.T.  Because of her, they were guided on the road of recovery and were given life again.  Ruth passed away in December 2008 at the age of 93.  For nearly forty years, she managed F.A.C.T (www.rethinkingcancer.org), helping cancer patients. Forty years ago, her 29 years old daughter was diagnosed with acute leukemia.  After undergoing chemotherapy, the body was unable to cope, so the treatment was stopped and she went home.  Ruth heard of a therapy that used vegetable juices and she began to provide that to her daughter.  The daughter started to regain her strength and her red blood cells were on the increase.  But not long after, her daughter began to feel unwell.  At that time, they were not aware of such “detoxification” reaction. This was due to the fact that when the body regained its strength, it would try to get rid of the poison in the body, especially with the medicine from chemotherapy.  Since her daughter was feeling unwell, she went back to the doctor.  On seeing the increase in the red blood cell count, the doctor continued chemotherapy.  Her daughter died shortly after.  From this experience, Ruth discovered that cancer patients have other choices.  She actively sought from all over the world, alternate methods of healing cancer, founded F.A.C.T, and worked tirelessly to help many patients regain their health.

She emphasized the importance of natural diet to repair and detoxify, supplementing with enzymes and green food supplements such as wheatgrass.  Forty years ago, she suffered from bad health and she was also a smoker.  After changing her diet, she lived for another forty years.

The advent of this DVD is to provide a very good answer to the increasing number of cancer patients.  The experiences of these terminal-cancer patients who have recovered and the interview of oncologists serve as a reference for those who are anxious.  Recently this non-profit organisation has also specially produced the DVD in traditional Chinese to be made available as a reference for Chinese.

When Facing Natural And Man-Made Disasters, What Can We Do?

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

In a recent teaching, the wise teacher Lama Zopa Rinpoche mentioned that because of mankind’s negativities and afflictions, and lack of merit and good heart, we are entering the degenerate age where living conditions are deteriorating and obstacles are increasing. At this time, it is most important for us to cultivate our spirituality, develop our loving kindness, and make preparations to leave this world at any moment.   At the moment of death, our best protection is our loving kindness and compassion, take refuge in the enlightened object of our spiritual practices(the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Jesus, etc) and our own luminous pure nature.

Only when there is no fear will our consciousness be able to make smooth transition to the Western Pureland, or other Purelands and heavens.  We will then be able to continue our spiritual growth on the path of light.

We need to persevere in cleansing our minds of defilements, and fulfill our aspirations and ideals. The dharma provides many methods to purify our minds and deepen our compassion. These include performing the Confessions of 35 Buddhas, the Great Compassion Repentance,  Nyungnay Retreat, Medicine Buddha Practice, and observing the Eight Mahayana Precepts, etc. We need to ceaselessly pray for the happiness of all beings.

The article “Infinite Blessings on the Great Path of Light” reiterates the need to ceaselessly pray and wish for the well-being of all beings. In this way, when we encounter impermanence, we will be ready. During our prayers, we will be protected by the light of our spiritual nature. The following is an even simpler way to elevate our light, and raise the energy level of ourselves and  surroundings.

I invoke the light of perfection within

The light is within

I am light

Light is our own luminous nature realized by enlightened and holy beings. It is the light of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. There was a man who entered the bardo after his death, and saw a ray of light reaching his consciousness. He recognized that this was Bodhisattva Avalokiteshsvara. Out of curiosity, he asked Avalokisteshsvara why she/he came to guide him. Avalokiteshsvara replied that in a past life, this man was injured in the wilderness and prayed to Avalokiteshsvara for help. Because of this past karma, Avalokiteshsvara would take care of him life after life, through the power of the compassionate Bodhisattva’s vows.

After the earthquake in Japan this time, the compassionate Lama Zopa Rinpoche transmitted the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva long and short mantras and advised students to pray to Ksitigarbha (see appendix). Readers can also refer to the Lapis articles “The Medicine Buddha Practice to Prevent and Heal Ailments” and “The Most Excellent Mahayana Eight Precepts”. Last year, we obtained from Lama Zopa Rinpoche his handwritten “Water Liberation Mantra” given by Padmasambhava. Water that has been blessed by this mantra has purification properties. Through the dedication and effort of everybody, glasses engraved with this mantra have been sent to the water supplies and sea water of over forty countries. Interested individuals can also purchase these glasses from Lapis Lazuli Light centres. This is a holy being’s gift that has appeared in these dire times, enabling those with the good merits to obtain its blessings.

How do we protect ourselves from nuclear radiation? The above spiritual practices and light visualization are most helpful, and greatly surpass the protection offered in the material world. However, there are still some material things that can offer us protection.

For instance, all the information on healthy living and products provided by Lapis Lazuli Light  are useful. When our bodies’ digestive and excretory systems are functioning well, they can rapidly detox and heal any damage from radiation. Hence, it is best to consume uncontaminated natural vegetarian food and supplement it with appropriate amount of special protective food. The emphasis is on “appropriate”, not excessive consumption. Sometimes, in a state of panic, overconsumption of these protective food can create problems.

The following are foods with protective properties:

  1. All vegetables with chlorophyll, including wheat grass and barley grass.
  2. Kelp, algae, and seaweed.
  3. Buckwheat and fresh sunflower seeds.
  4. Apples.
  5. Rejuvelac.
  6. Naturally fermented cabbage and miso.

Many years ago, Dr. Ann Wigmore ate some irradiated food and damaged her digestive system. She recovered by drinking rejuvelac and wheat grass juice.

In addition, sea salt and baking soda bath can remove radiation. Add one pound of salt and one pound of baking soda to a bathtub of water, and soak for twenty minutes. Bentonite clay or other clay baths can also remove radiation. Some of the health supplements by Lapis such as Bliss De Light, enzymes, and sea minerals are also helpful.

In addition, toxin-discharging organs such as the large intestines, liver, gall bladder, kidney and lungs need to clear their old debris in order to handle new contaminants. The following are methods to do so:

1.To clear the large intestines, eat natural food and drink clean water. Take sufficient friendly bacteria and enzymes. Naturally fermented cabbage can aid digestion. Also, squatting down to pass motion is a natural position that does not block the intestines. The modern sit-down toilet is unnatural.  It prevents complete emptying of the bowels and easily leads to piles. If your house has a sit-down toilet, you can place two stools beside it and squat on the tools to pass motion. Alternatively, you can put a basin on the floor and squat to pass motion, and then pour the excreta into the toilet. If you can install a new toilet, then change to a squatting one. In the West, only the king or noblemen in the past sat down to pass motion, while the common people squatted to do so.   Later on, people who made flush toilets wanted to let the ordinary folks experience the lifestyle of the royal families, and changed the toilets to the sitting type. This has the unexpected effect of interfering with people’s bodily functions. A small change had a big impact indeed.

2.For liver detoxification the key is eliminating the stones accumulated in the liver and gall bladder. This method involves using malic acid from apple juice, pure malic acid or apple cider vinegar to soften the stones, and then using oil and lemon juice to stimulate the secretion of bile to flush out the stones. I have introduced this method previously. Recently, there is a Chinese-translation of a book by Andreas Moritz titled “The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush” that discusses an amazing way to discharge liver and gall stones. Refer to the book for a thorough explanation and detailed procedure on how to do so.

3.The kidney also accumulates stones. A gradual and steady way to discharge the stones is to drink lemon juice mixed with warm water every morning. Alternatively, one can use the herbal approach mentioned in Moritz’s book.

4.Detoxification of the lungs involves exercising in an environment with clean fresh air, and deep breathing. It is very important to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation or electromagnetic radiation. Radiation is particularly harmful to the lungs.  For our survival, reduce the use of mobile phones and wireless internet connections.

Colour influences our body and mind (see “Let There Be Light: Practical Manual for Spectro-Chrome Therapy Book”). Purple nourishes our qi, deep blue and blue colours have protective functions, while green is healing. We can drink water that has been exposed to light through colour filters. Alternatively, place the colour filters next to the windows to receive the necessary light. In our day to day lives, we should get ready to face challenging times so that we do not panic when we encounter disasters. At that time, it is still useful to remember the Chinese idiom “Grasp the Buddha’s feet in times of need”.

Remember: Do not stop praying for the welfare and happiness of others.

Attached below are Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s long and short mantras of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, and associated prayers.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s discourse on helping victims of the 2011 tsunami:

Rinpoche wishes that the following message be relayed to all Buddhist Centres and students who may be affected by the tsunami.

Rinpoche advises recitation of Ksitigarbha mantra and prayer, and also chanting of the Buddha’s name mantra, while at the same time earnestly taking refuge and making strong prayers. Rinpoche indicates that this is beneficial to all who are affected by the tsunami, even if you are not affected personally.

Forward To The Simplified Chinese Version Of The Book

Forty years ago, when the incidence of cancer was rising in the U.S., people generally had a sense of fear and resignation towards cancer. Because of this, I was inspired to search for ways to prevent and cure cancer. Anthroposophy founder, Dr. Rudolf Steiner, believed that the problem facing us is our mission. The search for an answer to cancer gradually led me to a holistic approach to health. During this process, I acquired knowledge of which I had not previously encountered: natural diet, qigong, emotional healing, psycho-neuro-immunology, healing, prenatal psychology, and generational healing. I truely believe in the following: “If you ask, you will receive an answer”. If you don’t ask and only accept the current reality, accept what is said by your parents, teachers, doctors, and the authorities, etc., you have lost the opportunity to learn and grow. If you maintain an open mind and let go of preconceptions, you will naturally discover a path you have not traversed before.

Since young, I have been fond of asking questions … all sorts of questions: Why are people born? When the branch moves in the wind, did the wind move the branch, or did the branch move first resulting in the wind? I would think of many questions, and asked my father whenever I did not have the answer. When he did not have the answers he would usually say: “You will know when you grow up.” After I grew up, I continue to have many questions of my own, along with many others from the readers. These questions no longer revolve around cancer, but include a myriad of topics. Furthermore, these readers come from different countries, areas and cultural backgrounds. These questions are the motivating force that drives me to continue to investigate and learn. I also learn a lot from these questions. Questions that are similar also enable me to observe certain patterns. I see how changes in our modern living environment, the agricultural industry and our diet can lead to illnesses. These observations provide a direction for my research.

The answers I offer are merely suggestions that provide a general direction but do not constitute definitive solutions. Everyone would have to make adaptations based on their personal backgrounds and histories.  I am still continuing to learn, and there are many things that I don’t know.

I encourage every reader to develop the spirit of scientific research. When you face problems, know how to find the answer. Training your own observational power is a good starting point. If we don’t feel well physically, we can observe the changes within us during the day and also on a daily basis. Under what circumstances does it worsen or improve? If our digestive system is not feeling well, start noticing our bodily reaction to things we eat. How is the food produced? Is this processed food and are additives included? What is the ambience of the surroundings where we take our food, and how is our mood then? What is the mood of the person preparing and cooking the food? In addition, there are other factors unrelated to food such as discomfort to the digestive system from eating microwaved food. If we meticulously observe, we will find the cause.

How are the things that we use and live are produced, and what principles are they based on? How do these influence ourselves and nature? Many years ago, when I was on my Asian tour, I would often hear people coughing in the airport and on the plane. However, I rarely heard people cough in the U.S. airports and planes. Over ten years ago when the use of cell phones became popular in the U.S., I started hearing this type of phlegm cough more and more often. Recently, I heard that when people traveled to high-radiation densely populated cities, they often develop severe persistent coughs and have to eventually resort to antibiotic treatment.

From these observations and my many years of reading research reports on microwave radiation, I understand that these phenomena are caused by qi damage arising from wireless radiation. The latter damages our nervous and immune systems. The basic prevention and cure is to avoid harm from electromagnetic and microwave radiation, and heal the damaged Chi body.

In my book “Return to the Bliss of The Body”, I discussed some methods to protect ourselves against electromagnetic and microwave radiation. In addition, color visualization is also helpful. Dr. Mitchell May, who is a miraculous medical survivor, shared some of the light and color visualizations he had used during his recuperation. He indicated that visualizing our body filled with light is a good way to nourish our body. During his own healing from an automobile accident that broke his legs into 40 parts, he visualized that he had eighteen arms that stretched out to absorb sunlight from the sun. After that, he would massage his legs with the eighteen arms. He also visualized himself lying on the beach, letting the turquoise seawater wash away his pain, infection and fear.

Another teacher, Jim Goure, also taught the use of light to heal. He indicated that when scientists brought people to a room beneath the earth that were devoid of light, they could see light from the eyes and different hues around the body. This light originated from the solar plexus area. He suggested visualizing a sun in the area above the navel, and let the light shine from there to the entire body from head to toe.
Different color lights have their own unique functions. Green is for general healing, while gold has the ability to increase our immune system. One doctor recently shared a color visualization for people to protect themselves from electromagnetic radiation harm: visualize the body filled with blue (with a little violet) light. Do this for one or two minutes.

Nowadays, we have many sources of information, some of which conflict with each other. Without a foundation in many areas of knowledge, it will be difficult to ascertain the accuracy of such information. In such instances, we can quieten our minds and ask ourselves. Release the question and quietly wait for an answer within. The best time to do this is when we first wake up in the morning. The answer that comes from within is not from thinking, but from a sense of knowing.

To receive the answer from within ourselves, we have to put aside our views, and maintain a child-like innocence and freshness.

When we face difficult situations it is because what we know from before cannot solve the current problem. Hence, the answer is definitely not something we have heard or known before.

I have been able to receive new knowledge and information over the past forty years because I have always maintained an open mind. When I hear new things or information, I do not jump to conclusions immediately. I use a scientific attitude to observe and experiment. If there are useful insights, I will share with people around me and readers. Problems and difficulties are opportunities for us to break out of our limitations and to develop further. It is because of problems that our wisdom grows. I encourage everyone to continue to ask questions, and to listen for the answers within.

Infinite Blessings on the Great Path of Light

Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph.D.

Miracle is what we pray for when we come to a dead end. “Miracle” is the view of a multi-dimensional universe from a three dimensional perspective, and the small self’s view of the great self. When we reach an impasse, we have an opportunity to break out of the limits of our own reality. Venerable Xu-Yun, a great master of recent times, encountered many miracles in his lifetime. To repay the kindness of his mother, he made a pilgrimage prostrating from Mount Putuo to Mount Wutai. During these three years of pilgrimage, he almost froze to death twice, and coincidentally, the same beggar came to his rescue in both instances. The beggar claimed that he was called Wenji from Mount Wutai, and that he was known to the locals there. When Venerable Xu-Yun reached Mount Wutai, it turned out that nobody there knew this beggar. An old monk said that this beggar was a manifestation of Bodhisattva Manjushri, who appeared to save him. Similarly, the Peace Pilgrim also met many miracles in her life. She was penniless but to pray for human beings to learn the way of peace, she walked continuously from the west coast to the east coast of the United States, and from the south to the north. All she had with her was a thin layer of clothes and a pair of shoes. Nonetheless, there would be someone to take care of her food and accommodation. Sometimes, she had to sleep in the open, but she would ceaselessly go on with her prayers and blessings.

Miracles are experienced not only by a special few. Ordinary people who have been able to break through the limits of their consciousness and expand their horizons can also create miracles. Miracles are common when we live in the presence of the Great Self.  A business man lent a large sum of money to two friends who persistently did not repay the loan. For two years, he could not find them even though he hired a private investigator. When he was at his wits’ end, he decided to use light to bless them. Every morning and night, he would spend seven minutes to think about them and use light to dissolve all negative emotions and habitual tendencies. He then visualized that they were filled with and protected by light, and that only positive energy can permeate their circle of light. He also visualized that they were filled with gratitude for everything. Within five days, these friends appeared in his office to repay their loan. This businessman originally firmly held onto a three-dimensional materialistic view of the world. Once he was willing to let go of his restrictive views, miracles appeared.

An AIDS patient in Singapore followed his teacher’s instructions and spent a few minutes every day praying to take on the sufferings of all AIDS patients. Every time he prayed, he was moved to tears. Within a week, a hospital checkup indicated that he had fully recovered.  When we shift our attention from ourselves to praying for the well-being of others and the whole earth, our own health would invariably improve.

A patient sincerely prayed for the well-being of another seriously ill friend. When he did that, both of them recovered from their illnesses. The doctor was very surprised. In contrast, another lady had, for many years, prayed for her own recovery and had sent light to herself, but without much improvement. However, when she sent her blessings and light to the whole word, she fully recovered from her illness.

I have a good friend who, many years ago, followed her teacher and a group of fellow students to  pray and send blessings to different parts of the world that encountered disaster or hardship. They primarily used light to send blessings, and took turns to do so 24 hours a day. She went to many countries in Africa and South America. Once, she continuously sent light and love for eight hours to the area she was in and the entire earth. She felt that she herself had turned into light and energy. In fact, when she was in Ethiopia , she saw light coming from the earth.

In Jamaica, my friend’s teacher spoke to thousands of members in the audience: “If you wish for the political situation in your country to improve, you have to deeply love your country”. Two years later, the political situation in Jamaica changed for the better.

I asked this friend to share in detail the method of sending light blessings. She explained as follows. Fill ourselves with light, and then let light emanate from our solar plexus to the surroundings and the entire earth. Continue to send this light to the universe before letting the light return to ourselves. Repeatedly remind ourselves that we are light, and then send light to every life form. Light is love. See that every life form is loved by God.

Jesus Christ said: “You are the light of the world”, while Shakyamuni Buddha pointed out that every life has a clear luminous nature or Buddha nature. Every life possesses light. Our thoughts and emotions can influence the color of our light. Similarly, light can influence our thoughts and emotions, and light visualization can influence our body. Dr. Mitchell May is a living example of this. He used light visualization to repair his legs that had been broken in forty fragments.  Another American lady fortuitously found out that breathing light can have rejuvenation effects. In her forties, she was beginning to look aged with wrinkles on her face, and also put on weight. One night around midnight, she saw a very pretty pinkish-purplish circle of light outside her window, but didn’t know its significance. Two weeks later, she understood that she needed to breath in that light. After praying continuously, a method dawned upon her. Every morning, she first spent ten minutes breathing in that pink light. After that, during her out-breath, she visualized the light radiating to the part of her face where there were wrinkles, and imagined that there were no longer wrinkles on that part of her skin. She focused on a small part of her face each time, three rounds each time.  Her friends started to notice the improvement in her features, and asked her what kind of special nutrients she was taking. After nine months, her body and face had reverted back to what she looked like when she was younger. When she was in her fifties, she looked no more than thirty years old. Her modeling school students requested that she teach them this method. Those who practiced the method had the same effect. Whenever she completed her light breathing exercise, she would always express her gratitude to the heavens and all, and reflect that her purpose in asking for rejuvenation is to help others.

A co-author of this lady also tried this method with very good results. She elaborated that she visualized golden light being emitted from her solar plexus to her scalp, where new hair would grow. Within two weeks, new hair actually grew on her scalp. Whenever one is uncertain about the color to use for other parts of the body, it is safe to use the golden color. Sometimes while visualizing golden light, the color that our body needs will appear before us. For instance, light green is good for the eyes. Once we experienced the miracles with light visualization on our body, we will then have the confidence to extend healing to the entire earth.

Because of human beings, the earth has reached a point of no return. The weather has turned abnormal, and the Gulf of Mexico oil slick has cut the flow of warm ocean currents. Last year, England and Europe experienced an abnormally cold winter because the ocean currents could not reach these countries. Human-created pollution has led to the extinction of too many animal species, and “environmental” refugees are on the increase. In some places, residents are feeling that they have no place to escape to. When the water, air and soil are all polluted, where can we escape to?
Now is the time that every Lapis Lazuli reader can truly create a miracle together for the earth. In the past few years, we have published some books and articles such as “You have the Power to Change the Future”, “Drip Meditation”, “The Holographic Universe”. In my public lectures, I have on many occasions led the audience in light visualization for blessing the earth. Everyday, we need to ceaselessly bless the earth.  At least when we first start, we can spend a few minutes sending blessings in the form of light to every life on earth. We are the earth, the earth is us; we are one entity. Healing the earth is healing ourselves.

Research has increasingly shown that our thoughts can change matter and life. Emeritus Professor William Tiller from Stanford University studied how the human consciousness can influence the acid-base balance (pH) of water through a simple electronic device. Furthermore, after repeated attempts, the water pH fixed at a new level. In another U.S. experiment, researchers transmitted the photo of two leaves to England 6000 miles away. Over in England there was an audience of about 400 people who concentrated on one particular leaf to make its light emission stronger. As expected, the light emission of that selected leaf in the U.S. became noticeably brighter. The scientific interpretation of these phenomena is that a large portion of the universe contains vacuum, within which are photons, phi particles and energy from other dimensions.  Consciousness can influence the vast energy within this vacuum. In Buddhism, it is said that emptiness contains the potential to create. This is very similar to the idea of the vacuum in physics, which maintains that it is possible via the vacuum state to alter matter a distance away, or change the past or future. The rotations (clockwise or anticlockwise) of the pendulum also arise from the vacuum state. Although the effects of some of the anti-electromagnetic radiation methods cannot be assessed via traditional three-dimensional devices, their effects in shifting the vacuum state and life forces can be detected through changes in the molecular structure of water.

A year ago, I had an intuition to place the six-syllable mantra on a picture of a cell phone tower. Originally, whenever I climbed a nearby mountain, my neck would hurt because as the elevation got higher, my exposure to radiation from the cell phone tower increased. However, after I put the compassion mantra on the photo, my neck no longer hurt when I climbed the same mountain. My pendulum readings also changed from counterclockwise to clockwise. I recommend readers to try this method to alter the disharmonious energy in the city where one lives.

Ibrahim Karim from Egypt is an architect and founder of biogeometry. He has warned about the harm caused by man-made microwave and electromagnetic radiation. Two small towns in Switzerland were greatly affected by the radiation from cell phone towers. The telecommunication company SwissCom invited Karim to use biogeometric principles to design some remedial methods. After he had done so, the birds and wildlife returned to the towns, and the residents there their lives return to normal. This effect on animals was striking as animals are not susceptible to mental suggestions. Once again, this is proof that energy that cannot be detected can alter detectable energy forms.

The following are exercises that use our mental thoughts and light to protect ourselves, our living environment and the earth (our larger body). These are only suggestions and serve as a starting point. Everyone can make adaptions based on the guidance they receive from their inner light.

1.Sky-blue light – letting go, forgiveness, and unconditional love

Visualize blue light, representing the universe’s perfect unconditional love, entering through your head into the chest, abdomen and all the way to your toes. Your head, bone marrow, blood, lymphatic fluid, nervous system, organs, hormonal secretions and skin are filled with blue light. Accept the nourishment of the blue light, letting it heal all deficiencies, regret, guilt, hatred, and worries. Let the sky-blue light purify the etheric body, astral body, and mental body. From the solar plexus area, send the sky-blue light to the physical and mental memories needed most. Then spread the light to our workplace and home. Let the light shine on our home, workplace, city and all beings living in this environment.  Let them receive love, dissolving disharmonious energy. Send the light to the province, state, and country we live in, and extend it to the continent and entire earth, from the mountains to the bottom of the sea, and further to the core of the earth. The earth becomes the sky-blue sun, and every life receives love. From the earth, send the light to the entire universe, blessing every life with love and good fortune. Then, return the sky-blue light to ourselves, bring back the entire universe’s love. Quietly experience the light, thanking every living being, every life experience, everything.

2.Golden light – elevating, transforming and wisdom

Visualize that golden light, representing the universe’s perfect wisdom and energy, entering through your head, letting your entire body filled with golden light. Then from the solar plexus, send light into the etheric body, astral body and mental body, enabling fulfillment of all that needs to be elevated and transformed. The golden light allows our speech, emotions, and thoughts to be guided by wisdom. Send the golden light to the people around us and the environment, and visualize everyone shimmering in the golden light. Then send the golden light to the earth and the entire universe. The golden light brings the universe’s perfect wisdom to earth, our city, our home, and to ourselves. We are one with the golden light, and we quietly bask in the golden light.

Now, I wish to use Bodhisattva Shantideva’s prayers to bless the earth. Shantideva was a great compassionate enlightened monk from Nalanda Monastery, who lived in India during the 8th century. His fellow monks thought that he only knew how to eat, sleep and defecate.  His classmates had lost patience with him, and wanted him to leave. They figured that if they asked Shantideva to teach the dharma, he would be so embarrassed that he would leave. Shantideva asked them if they wanted to hear familiar sutras or something new. His classmates replied that they wanted the latter. To make fun of him, they made a very high throne for him to deliver his discourse. When the time came for the discourse, they found that he was already seating on that high throne. His discourse was later known as “A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life”. When Shantideva came to the end of his discourse, he rose higher and higher, and his voice became more distant. It has been said that he was the manifestation of Bodhisattva Manjushri.

The following are excerpts from his dedication of merits:

May all beings everywhere, plagued by sufferings of body and mind,
Obtain an ocean of happiness and joy, by virtues of my merits.
May no creature suffer, commit evil or ever fall ill.
May no one be afraid or belittled,
And may their minds be free from worries and stress.
May the blind see form, the deaf hear sound.
May those whose bodies are worn with toil be restored on finding repose.
May the naked find clothing, the hungry find food,
And the thirsty find water and delicious drinks.
May the poor find wealth, those weak with sorrow find joy;
May the forlorn find hope, constant happiness and prosperity.
May there be timely rains, and bountiful harvests.
May all medicines be effective, may all wholesome prayers bear fruit.
May all who are sick and ill quickly be freed from their ailments,
Whatever diseases there are in the world, may they never occur again.
May the frightened cease to be afraid,
May those who are bound be freed.
May the powerless find power.
And may people think of benefitting each other.
